A true sailor! You're the *ONLY* guy on KZbin that doesn't use a motor to get to the haul-out crane. I love every single one of your videos. Thank you for posting these. I'm in awe of your skill.

Love the genuine sailing element. Make sure you show the maintenance works you are doing when lifted out, it's adds to reality of it all. Love your boat (not sure I could have the patience for no engine of some sort though!!). Regards from Ireland.

Well, you certainly put those of us like me, who use our engines too much, to shame. I shall definitely try and start using the sail more coming into anchorages. Mind you, I will probably still have the engine ticking over just in case. Text book docking manoeuvre - that was a pleasure to watch.

I would not discourage having the engine ticking over if you feel uncertain of your skills. On other hand, a few cheap thrills here and there adds spice to life ...

Loved the authenticity of the morning start. You really are a sailor man, doing all these manoeuvres singlehanded! About the noise from the autofocus: when you’re using a wide angle, like in the docking, I reckon you can just turn autofocus off. It’s a good device to find focus quick, but when recording I don’t use it at all (or very seldom). It helps in the editing process to have it clean. And the sound recorder was working fine, clean of wind, and is no big deal if in the frame. Thnx m8 for a good vid!

Wow..admirable anchoring. I used to take my boat under sail into harbor. Sometimes 2 approaches depending on wind. 2 hp motor just 'in case.' I think in the US it's forbidden to go under sail into dock? The way youbdocked was high5

I am 63. Other than working on tunaboats at 18-19, I haven't been on boats all this time. We want to move to Panama on the Pacific side, and at our age we'll be looking for a boat that's easy to board and easy to bring supplies without the danger of breaking a leg.

Kevin, A little explanations please. When you were sailing towards your destination the dingy was on the foredeck. When you were making your way into the anchorage the dingy wasn't on the foredeck. When you were making your way to the dock, the dingy was back on the foredeck again. Why didn't you just leave it there? And a suggestion for a future epesode. How about an explanation of how you set a given course to a destination, set your sails to the wind and set the self steering to maintain the course and wind direction on the sails. Kind of a tutoral on setting and maintaining a course with the self steering vane.
@howtosailoceans1423
@howtosailoceans1423 6 жыл бұрын
That's because I hauled out several days after I arrived in Deltaville and needed the dink to get ashore in the meantime. I put it back up on the foredeck just before I hauled.

As your next birthday approaches do yourself a favor and call Mack Sails (in Miami, I believe) and order a Light No. 1 Genoa for your boat. And a topsail, if your rig is proportioned for it. I'm tired of seein' you stumble about in calms under main alone. It hurts me. Bad. In light air, sail area is the name of the game. (I'm assuming your bottom is clean.) So let's see a cloud of canvas aloft and some snap in our light-air drill!

Actually I've been having problems with my clip on mic, so some of it was the Zoom recorder, some of it just the built in mics on the cameras (EOS 60D and Olympus TG-3).

Are there any instances when you'd leave the jib up while anchoring?
@howtosailoceans1423
@howtosailoceans1423 6 жыл бұрын
Generally no, since the staysail or jib gives the boat quite a bit of power, and when you're anchoring generally you want to power down and slow down. Occasionally I've sailed off anchor or a mooring with the staysail up so I could get off on the preferred tack by backing it, and power up fast, typically in lighter conditions.
@emilybh6255
@emilybh6255 6 жыл бұрын
I would think, as long as it is luffing, having it up, in some boats anyway, might help with steering in an unusual or unexpected circumstance where you'd have to change your location at the last minute and need it.. I've always caught moorings with both sails up (using no engine, of course). I just make sure they are luffing and the boat slows down many boat lengths before we approach the mooring. I agree, leaving the mooring really helps to have a jib up to make sure you get headed in the direction you want.

I was surprised to see how much my coffee maker draws on the inverter. After that I got a French press, just a pain to clean. Oh I found a way to get rid of the 60hz hum while playing guitar. I'm using a used 30$ line 6 pod as an amp and it has a built in noise gate. Works great to stop the 60hz

Hey, thanks! My Zoom effects pedal is nearing the end, salt air is killing the switches, the Line 6 pod might be a good replacement. Looks like it can run off USB, so you can use DC power if the noisegate doesn't get all of the 60 hz.
