I used to do a paper round from Chiverton's Newsagents but each morning before doing it I'd visit the slipway and watch the hovercraft take off - there was something intoxicating about the noise and smell of it that enthralled me as a kid.

The great SRN6 - Seaspeed started operating in 1965. This service - Cowes to Southampton - started 6th July 1966.
