Why flagging registry? Are you planning to build by shores?

Every vessel on the ocean should have a flag if they want to avoid fighting off being claimed by others. A flag for a vessel is like a passport for a person, it gives you access to representation in a legal dispute.

​@@luther0013True, but this is better than a state navy coming to seasteads in international waters and simply stealing or destroying them. Under International Maritime Law, any vessel or structure at sea that does not fly the flag of a recognized country is considered a "pirate". This means that any navy has the "legitimacy" to confiscate or destroy them.

@@luther0013It may be, but at this initial moment of the birth of seasteading communities in international waters, we will have to follow the rules of the 'big players' (States and international organizations) just to have a chance for them to grow or prosper. If we were to arrive as the 'badass anarchists,' insulting and ridiculing all the States of the world, some State would come up with some excuse to intervene or try to demolish the seasteads. Therefore, in the early years of the childhood and adolescence of seasteading communities (In the first 20 years since the establishment of the first seastead community in international waters), we must 'follow the rules' as much as possible and always maintain a low, discreet, and non-provocative profile against the status quo system, demonstrating that it is more advantageous to have seasteaders as allies rather than enemies. After 50 years or more, when prosperity and wealth surpass many times that of States, we can begin to think about real independence. This is a pragmatic and realistic approach that I believe has a great chance of success. Unfortunately, we will have to postpone the 'primay reason' for seasteading for about 50 years until we start to have power and a voice to question the global status quo. And finally we managed to have a truly free and voluntary society in the world, totally independent.

there's nothing to shut down...people gathering together offshore is perfectly legal. also, international waters = not under usa government jurisdiction

@@michaelgusovsky that’s not how international waters work. Expect yourselves to be constantly raided by pirates with no one coming to help you or whatever government you are operating under the flag of to be constantly checking you are operating within their laws.

The focus should be on affordable large scale surfaces developing low value, rather than the opposite. The fundamental aim of seasteading was to resume production of land, not compete remotely with the highest-valued acreage on Earth.
