Really helpful video. The plastic wheel on my Leon was slightly different so would not come out easily so i put two strips of insulation tape in situ. This fixed the problem and saved buying a new unit which are around £120.00.

I had the same problem, it was no more opening from the handle..... I but 1 drop of super glue on the electrical button and one long drop on the white plastic and let them dry out for 24 hours and after that I assembled back and it works like new 😉👍👌

Let me know if it works for you too. It's not a perfect solution. Now it's has been 3 months since I repaired the lock and occasionally it still doesn't open at the first try. I have to pull the handle a few times or harder than usual and then it opens.

Yes, it worked! the contact switch seems that it make contact when its pressed more after you hear the click... so I installed some hard rubber attached and glued. Its working! thank you very much for the video!

I did this for my mom's car - it worked for a week or two but the tape teared. Now I put epoxy glue layer on the white part and it is working again.

The key button only unlocks the lock, the "S" handle then activates the electronic tailgate latch. Think of a drivers door; the key button unlocks the lock, the door handle mechanically opens the latch. He was only pushing the key button to show that the lock had been unlocked.

I dont think that electrical tape would last there for more than 2 weeks. If that another thicker layer do the job, then mayby a layer of two of some glue...

Seat Altea here, the remote does nothing, the handle doesnt open,no sound of the motor unlocking anything. But I can get through the emergency unlock step, spent like a good 40mins fiddling around but nothing. Could it be due to low temps outside? Its like -1 to -7 here these days. Or maybe Im doing something wrong, I dont know.

How old is your car battery? When the temperature is low, batteries lose charge quite quickly...

@@problemstolearnfrom8119 Well, its a borrowed car, so Im not sure how new it is, but I know it was recently changed. I did get through the emergency unlock step. I already had tried lighting the inside of the slit by that point when I opted to try it once again (I did think I was going insane cuz by the definition of insanity I was doing the same thing over and over, expecting different results) and I found that most of the angles I light at it result the slit seeming even darker than before lighting, but an extremely narrow angle lets you see into the slit. What I saw was that the backdoor was sitting in its place a little deeper than the back door of your Altea, but the soft cover on the inside of the door was holding in a different sorta way also, and I think its due to these small differences is why my car key wasnt reaching the level by a couple of milimeters. So I took a very thin wrench a little longer than the key, reached in and managed to open the back door after a few seconds of practice. Everything else, except a part of the soft cover holding points apparently being held by something that seems to be glued before and the glue held weaker than the holding points, seemed to go well. Got a bit dark and cold so I left it at that, but Ill find another day to take out the handle and check if the switch and the motor are working. Its also weird, because the owner told me the remote button used to work before, but for me it only lights up the red LED and thats about it. Either way its a fine car as much as Ive been borrowing it (about a 1000 kilometers at this time I think, maybe 1100 km).

Mine refuses to open with the key. Just stopped working without warning. but my electronic key unlock stopped working long before. Can't work out if it's the electronics causing the problem or the mechanical part of the key lock? So frustrating

I had the same dilemma, so I took the door lock out and through trial and error, I found out that the small switch (shown at 1:40 and 2:05) wasn't being pressed by the white plastic because the upper part of the electric switch had worn out.

When you put the key in and turn it...its feels different if that's makes sense..very loose mechanism where as before you could feel resistance on the key. I have given up on the electronic side ie I had 2 keys. One had the battery and buttons on. I lost that key. Only had a spare key left which had no battery or buttons on it...its purely a key.

Hi. The problem is not in the remote key button. The plastic on the electrical switch shown in 1:42 was worn out. So the solution was to add one layer of tape on the white plastic 2:28 that is responsible for activation of the electrical switch when you pull the door handle. The other possible solution was mentioned by Flaviu - he added a drop of super glue directly on the worn out electrical switch. I think that his solution is even better than mine.

The remote key just unlocks the trunk door, but you still have to physically press the electrical switch to open the door as seen in 1:41 to 1:46. The problem lies in the worn out plastic bit at the top of that switch.

He means that there's a motor in the lock (electric motor) that opens and closes the lock of the trunk (normally when it's not broken). And a friend of him had that problem and they (I suppose from the garage) told him that this part is broken. Happened with an Leon 2.

Esta cerradura tiene un motor tmb pero no se puede usar pq este componente de plastico ha sido deteriorado así no funcionó más sabes. Normalmente si escuchas que el motor hace algo si abres la cerradura con la llave, es un componente mecanico que esta roto como aquí tmb. Espero que hayaís solucionado todo. Saludos desde Alemania
