Despite sharing many mechanical components with the VW Golf R, the Seat Leon ST 300 Cupra has its own identity. Sporty flair on the outside, and familiarity on the inside. Blistering performance lacks, unfortunately, noise to accompany it. Grip is sublime, thanks to a 4DRIVE system. Being the estate this is a vastly practical family car, and it costs a few grand less than the equivalent Golf R. You’ll struggle not to love it.

Great video, the only negatives were actually positives in my eyes. No noise for me is a good thing - the silent assassin. 4K cheaper than a golf r but lower insurance and just as much fun. The seats I can live with. I did a test drive in this recently and it has all the power I’d ever need and handles like a hot hatch not an estate. A quite rare and very underrated car,

Lee Nadalutti the silent assassin... like it. For us we’d like to have the option of noise that engages in, say, Cupra mode to make it a bit more theatrical to drive. You’re definitely right about it being underrated. You see only a fraction of these in comparison to the Golf R. Rarity is to be admired and I dare say it helps their reputation for insurance purposes. If the yobs choose the Golf R then the Seat insurance will always be cheaper.

Good review! I actually like the seats. I've tried the buckets and they're a real pita for everyday driving, specifically getting in and out. As for the noise, it's a family car and I appreciate that you can drive with 300hp in a car that is quiet and not that much different to the 1.4 fr on the outside 😄

Plenty of noise comes from the exhaust, just less than the mk3 because of the gpf, it still pops and bangs but it's more muffled and you have to be in sport or cupra before it does it.

I got to disagree with the seats i drove my mates with the buckets seat and i actually prefer the normal seats, much better for day to day driving.

The buckets are standard on the ST R. Also the noise is much louder, due to the quad exhausts with upgraded mufflers. With an ABT pack the R is much hoter and nicer looking than the Golf (carbon carbon and carbon -real!-) Plus those are now around 30-33k in the UK. Why would you buy a standard one these days?! Get an R while stocks last. (150 brought over)

I have a 2018 about a yar and a half now. Trouble with the entire suspension. It's been back to the main seat dealer 6 times now and they still cannot find a resolve for the creeky noises and poor feel. The main thing I dislike about the car is the not the cheap feel of every part of the car but the crappy fake noise in cupra mode. A good work around is go to individual mode and put all modes into cupra apart from the engine. When driving, put the box into sport and its still a more dynamic drive but without the fake noise

I have always thought why does the estate get 300 bhp when the hatch gets 290 bhp !

will park so if you want to buy a Cupra you can choose FWD or AWD and not having to go buy say a Golf R or S3 just for the all wheel traction

Good video, I've ordered one of these. By the way it's not bronze--it's copper. Cupra is Latin for copper!

0-60 is 4.9. 5.7 in the hatch.

It certainly shows how good the 4DRIVE system is at getting you off the line: the hatch has to make do with front-wheel drive only!

Simply Motor but that’s fine for Grand Prix at the lights on a roll the fed hatch is faster in day to day driving it’s so light

This car is a wolf in sheeps clothing. Not a lot of cars can keep up, especially off the line.
