This video has been a life saver! I took on the task of reupholstering my front seats in my 66 this weekend and I would have been lost without this video. The passenger seat is done (slightly imperfectly, but still looks great) and the driver’s seat is almost done. I’ve been leaning on wires in the driver seat for years, so it’s going to be amazing to have new foam (and vinyl) on my seat.

This is a good tutorial video. i watched many times before and during my rework. heres some tips: 1 invest in a good pair of hog ring pliers AND cutters. common wire cutters will not work removing your missed hog rings 2 consider getting straight handle hog ring pliers, the angled units dont work well 3 get an extra set of hands to help, compressing foam and getting to the wires is tiring and frustrating 4 take care when ringing down the listing wires, they can tear out of the thin material TMI used to hold them in place 5 as stated, put material out is sun to soften, it makes stretching easier 6 be prepared to give your hands and forearms a workout, the sport foam is not easy to work with 7 consider hiring a pro to do it, what is your time worth? i hate upholstery work, i'm in the middle of this now, so i will keep going. probably never do this again.

A couple of tips. Put your new vinyl covers out in the sun for a good hour or more, it softens the material and easier to work with. 2. use plastic grocery bags, or a dry-cleaning back, pulled over the foam, them the vinyl slips into place really easy.

Thanks for this awesome video. Must have watched it 10 times during my install. I have no experience installing upholstery. Your 22 minute video made me a pro. Got my pony upholstery and seat cushions installed in my 64 1/2 Mustang and I don't think the pro's could have done a better job. Your video covers everything but the rear seats but they are a breeze to install. I added a couple layers of quilting fabric to the rear seat bottom and it turned out AWESOME! Saved me $550!

Watching this makes me want to hire this out. Finally picked up a set of Sport II foams and covers. I had been wanting these since they came out with the original set, then the II looked even better. I've been working on this car that long. I need seat backs also I see...
@Zerogivengarage11 жыл бұрын
The original canvas is there to protect the factory upholstery during installation. It is not needed with the new upholstery so if it is in good shape you can keep it, if not throw it away. The springs are not really replaceable, I have seen various to repair them but none are really a good solution. If they still move freely and are not rusted out and broken they will be fine. We have done a few seats where they are so badly rusted they fall apart in our hands so we have to replace the frame.

Here's a tip...don't fold over the bolsters or edges until you've completely hog ringing the center listing channels. The foam will compress enough for you to fold over the edges. Finish off by steaming the inside of the vinyl to soften it and reduce wrinkles.
@customdigital39656 жыл бұрын
Also, see if you can rent or purchase a pneumatic hog ring tool. Doing it by hand sucks
@Zerogivengarage11 жыл бұрын
The back seat is a lot easier since there is no large bolsters to stretch the material over. You simply hog ring it to the seat frame just like the factory
@acwren37494 жыл бұрын
Thorough presentation. I have one question though: what is holding the seat foam to the frame? Is it not necessary to first hog ring the embedded listing wire in the foam to the paper wrapped listing wire in the seat frame? And then, attach the upholstery hog ringing the listing wire in the upholstery to the listing wire in the foam? Please advise . Thanks Ace
@JoshMarris2 ай бұрын
Is the foam hog-ringed to the frame first? And do the hog-rings holding the cover down going around the foam listing wire and the frame?

The only feedback I have is that when you attach the back frame to the bottom frame, it might be way tighter that what you had on the show. Mine was so tight I had to use a lot of force to make it work. That unfortunately ripped the upholstery. TIP: use a lot of heavy duty duck tape to protect your upholstery. Not your fault, lesson learned on my part.

@bashed686 ай бұрын
As was suggested above, use zip ties. I came up with this idea years ago and it worked wonders. The previous commenter said to just use them to get started, but in my opinion, they are a permanent solution. I don’t think zip ties existed “back in the day”. Regardless, I suspect hog rings are faster in a factory production environment, which may be why they’re not OE.

You first should connect (all) the hogrings, the top and the siderings, and then flip over the top and sidematerial with a heatblower to make the material soft. Then you don´t get this ugly pleats I still see at your project. oh these are fun to do...not. Literally the lamest job to do in the upholstery trade that I've ever encountered. Mustangs suck, Camaro even worse. get ready for early arthritis. these kits from Classic Industries or TMI never fit right even after hours of wresting and fighting and stretching to the point stitches are tearing, and after all that work and time they still look like wrinkled garbage and will leave you unsatisfied. I wont be taking on those jobs ever again. aftermarket kits are complete crap!
