I saw something like this at my local Starbucks, where this guy was being rude and outright disrespectful to the barista. Then he reach over and tried to grab the young girl and she yelled at him luckily my nephew who's off duty police officer and an ex mama fighter told the I'm off duty police and ask the guy to step away from the the counter umm dumb full tried to throw a punch and well let's just say the guy ended up in jail assault with charges and other charges added to him. Damn after the pandemic, people started to lose it. Yes but to complete the story she only said that AFTER he had spent over 10 minutes arguing with her about the price -- blocking the window and preventing other customers from placing an order/making a purchase. You can bet some customers pulled up and left without making a purchase because of that. And why is he OUTSIDE of his car at a drive thru? He 100% brought it upon himself.

The part where you mentioned "she had no idea" doesn't fly in court. By that logic, it would apply to literally anyone passing by her even outside the shop. Also, look at the time window in which she went to grab the hammer and strike back. That's a good 10 seconds right there. He was definitely wrong, and it is indeed assault, but the level of retaliation also must make sense. It all matters in court. It's actually why she's on the hook for the damages to his car. Second, the reason why the argument doesn't make sense is because if he wanted to grab a weapon of his own, he would've easily done so after the retaliation. He was far too calm even after leaving. In other words, the court would put her on the hook for the damages exactly due to her overblown reaction. It sucks, but it is how it is.

I worked customer service in 21 & 22, and I encountered this type of behavior. They didn't expect me to stand up for myself. These people will try anything to make one feel bad or anything to get a free meal, and also use the famous lines "The Customer Is Always Right" but they messed with the wrong guy I did not fall for those gaslighting tactics... If the law isn't going to do anything about this... then we might as well stop these creatures and their behavior before they think it's okay to go and do it again elsewhere. Somebody has to.
