@@mala3isity I wasn't assigned to the mounted unit. I've been to the stables where the horses live, they are very well cared for. There are farriers working there and they have large outdoor areas where they can trot around, it located to the park system of Philadelphia. I actually processed an arrest where a drunk punched one of our horses.

@@treaty92 Thank you, sir, for your service and your answer. Words get around a workplace and I thought you might've heard about the horses. I'm happy you actually went to see them. It's good to know they get to play, too. :) I hope the horse paid the drunk guy back. I used to care for my ex-BIL's rodeo horses and I know they have a long memory. Years down the road, that horse will see that guy and who knows what'll happen? Maybe the horse is the forgiving type. "He was totally wasted, I don't hold it against him."

i know how you feel. i used to compete in eventing... my thing was show jumping.... if i was mounted cop, ide just want to jump every fence i see! hahaha im guessing you miss working with horses as much as i do?

Amazing animals. Once you have a horse's trust a whole new experience is opened up to you. Mounted cops are awesome. I am learning to drive horse drawn carriages and loving it. Just need to loose weight and eventually i'll get my own horse or two.

Long shank bits............people, you do not want to control the horse through pain, fear, and intimidation. Check out how the Houston Mounted Patrol trains and equips their horses.

Kerry Mulholland His heels are still pointed down. Your knees aren't supposed to be 90 degrees either, it's all up to what is comfortable for the rider. They are on a horse all day

When I was 10 if rode in a Tom Thumb bit, they need some lessons on what damage they are doing to their horses with those unbelievably cruel bits and sharp spurs. What is this the wild west?

Only problem is not all horses take to the bitless bridle and the training costs would probably astronomical for them given how many horses they likely have. It's a nice dream, but I imagine they would have to implement the bitless training in with the initial at the start of the horses career and filter the others out as they get older ..

Spurs are mainly a training aid, because someone is wearing spurs does not mean that they actually use them. Sometimes just a slight tap with the spurs will coax them to do what the rider wants. Lisa Allred Mules also are more prone to be stubborn jerks and are a lot smaller than the draft horses that are most commonly used by mounted police officers.

Mackenzie Smith You are incorrect. I have had horses & mules all my life. Mules are more reliable, sure footed cautious. They also will form a closer bond, mine follow me like dogs. Most of my mules were draft mules with a draft horse as the mare & they are quite large.
