Seattle's Chinatown-International District residents fighting to preserve the neighborhood's culture

Residents of the historic Chinatown-International District are asking to be included in discussions for a new light rail project in, or near their neighborhood.
It's one of the latest projects in a decades-long struggle for those who call the area home to keep their culture, identity and location in Seattle alive.
In the fall of 2022, members of the neighborhood and advocates for Chinatown-International District, also known as the CID, protested against plans for a roughly 500-bed shelter the community did not want.
It was not the first time residents of the CID have fought to protect their neighborhood.

Ron Chew's My Unforgotten Seattle is just amaging. He talks about the history and evolution of the CID community over the past 50 years, and it is really educational and interesting... I stayed in Seattle for a short period of time 25years ago, and since then I have been interested in the history and literature of Asian (especially Japanese) American community. Actually, it was a bit difficult for me to read Ron's book (over 600 pages!), but I learned a lot from it in thinking about what is important in life during the pandemic.

I worked in a bank building in the CID for several years. I loved the culture and people there.

More rail stops means less traffic. But you sound like someone who enjoys sitting in traffic because a bunch of people still need to drive to a rail stop.
