This was our televised game of the week here in the UK. I was a member of the Seahawkers a British based Seahawks fan club. And the consensus amongst us as the game was in Chicago, the Bears were going to kill us. I remember distinctly our secretary said the game was going to be " hellish ". But this was classic 80's Seahawks, winning games they were expected to lose and losing games they were expected to win. The biggest tragedy of this game was a glimpse of the player Brian Bosworth might have been if he hadn't used PED' which wrecked his shoulders. RIP ,Walter Payton, he would be heartbroken at how today's NFL has devalued the RB, position he graced so spectacularly. Go Hawks

Hi Richard! Thanks for uploading the entire game. That said, I'm a Bears fan since I was 12 in the 1985 season. In 1987, when the Bears regulars came back from the strike in around week 7, the Bears defense was not the same as far as their play. The first two games of 1987 against the Giants and Buccaneers, that defense was on fire! But when they came back, that defense struggled in home games against Kansas City, and Seattle and road games at Denver and San Francisco. This game was bittersweet because it was Walter's last regular season home game. I also wanted the Bears to get back on track after that 41-0 Monday debacle at San Francisco the previous Monday. Two Sunday nights ago the Bears got an exciting and clutch win at Minnesota to clinch the NFC Central for the fourth season in a row. But I was deeply concerned about the Bears inconsistent defensive play after the regulars returned from the strike over several weeks earlier.

I cried just now seeing this. I cried even more when the NBC NFL intro came on. I even cried more that he died in 1999.

2:39:44 If you’d like to see how the NFL treats concussions differently nowadays, just watch this, and how Curt Warner remained in the game, despite clearly being concussed.

If you get a chance to see the NBC pregame show’s full segment on Walter that segways right into his walk onto the field that this upload starts in the middle of, SEE IT! Absolute tear jerker. I had it on VHS for years. Only Bears loss I never taped over.

The last catch of WR Daryl Turner’s NFL career was a 12 yard TD in the second quarter of this game. Amazingly, he caught 36 TD’s in just 101 career receptions. He flamed out because of drugs and a cranky back. The Seahawks traded him to the Browns the following season, but he failed the physical upon his arrival in Cleveland. Thus, the trade was nullified and he was sent back to Seattle. Never to play again.

Even though I am a SeaHawk fan, Walter Payton along with Barry Sanders as a close second are my favorite RBs of all time. Those two Mike Tomczak fumbles and interception (after a Bear holding penalty nullifying a pass completion at the SeaHawk 1 yard line) in the second half led to Seattle scoring 13 points. That was the key to the game.

I,'ll always remember how Ditka did not allow Sweetness to score even 1 touchdown in Superbowl XX. Just so the Fridge could score. Chicago 46-10 over New England.

I'm convinced that Ditka had somebody bet money for him on the Fridge scoring a touchdown in that Super Bowl. No other logical explanation for it, first tried to get him to throw a TD pass, and then he scored a rushing touchdown. Ridiculous.

It wasn't that Dirka didn't allow Walter to score. Yes, Ditka got caught up in the Refrigerator phenomenon he created. But New England had been keying in on Walter all game. So seeing how hard New England was focusing on stopping Walter, Ditka decided to use him as a decoy and as far as winning the game, it worked! Remember, in the Bears opening drive of the game, Walter fumbled the ball away deep in Patriots territory. All the Patriots could manage was a field goal to take a 3-0 lead. New England's consulation prize no matter how bad they got beat was to stop Walter Payton. Just look at the play in the 3rd quarter when Jim McMahon went back to pass and he faked a hand off to Walter. 6 or 7 Patriots went after Walter while McMahon rolled back the opposite way and threw a 67 yard bomb to Willie Gault deep in Patriots territory. In week 2 of the 1985 season, the Bears played the Patriots at Soldier Field. The Patriots held Walter in check that game and Walter fumbled in that game also. The Bears won that game 20-7. For some peculiar reason, Walter never ran well against the Patriots going back to the late 1970's. All that said, if I could have advised Ditka, I would have reminded him that Walter is the heart and soul of the Bears and had been that for 11 season. Give Sweetness the rock 4 straight times till he gets in no matter what New England is doing. And if he still didn't score, then at least Ditka and Walter could say he got his chance. I'm pretty certain that Gayle Sayers, Dick Butkus, Dan Marino, Dan Fouts, Fran Tarkenton, Jim Marshall, Boomer Esiason, Brian Urlacher, Devin Hester, Randall Cunningham, Donovan McNabb and many countless more players would trade all the scoring, statistics, etc to be on at least one winning Super Bowl team. And that's something Walter could say that no of those great players and many I didn't mention could ever say.

I still believe something was wrong with Payton, something that happened towards the end of the 1985 regular season. He played absolutely horribly during that post season, fumbling the ball, dropping passes and getting stacked up behind the line of scrimmage. Knowing what I know now, either he was diagnosed with hepatitis or HIV would be my guess, and the Bears and the league kept the news under wraps.

Walter Payton -- one of the greatest running backs (indeed, one of the greatest football players) to ever play the game -- was plagued throughout most of his career with quarterbacks who were mediocre *at best.* He started with Bob Avellini, and then ended with Mike Tomczak. If *only* he had been traded to the Chargers in 1978 -- Don Coryell's first year as San Diego's head coach.

Back in the day when the Seahawks wore real uniforms. Odd! How the hideous U.S.F.L. made it in to the N.F.L. Bosworth the most expensive lemon in N.F.L. history. Sweetness carried the Bears for most of his career. Emitt Smith did not have the luxury. R.I.P. Sweetness. Your still the best.
