thanks so much for the analysis on the "optimal" tuning differences of type 2 lead boats today...Question....what do they actually do (or have) to make these differences? I thought it was all about sail positions or shapes. or is it to do with the shapes of the boat hulls?
@OCteahead20 сағат бұрын
Pip’s video today mentioned anchors sealed in Medallia’s port tunnel. Are the anchors like the engine, having to be sealed during the race (and disqualification is unsealed)? If so, the engine makes sense to me, but why the anchors?

Hi, thanks for sharing your knowledge! It would be interesting to know more about the optimization done in different boat designs. Is it more on the design of the hull, rig and sails or what?

I was unable to comment yesterday but as a proud Tasmanian i agree with Conrad that Cape Leuwin is beautiful as it may be is not anything special as far as Capes go. I think Southwest Cape at the bottom of Tasmania is much more significant and the fleet actually goes much closer to it than Western Australia. I wouldn't want to suggest it to the New Zealanders but as they are even more south than Tasmania and also the halfway point in the race if they have a decent Cape that anyone has heard of at the bottom a New Zealand maybe theymshould talk about that. Alternatively they could say it is a 5 Cape race. Cheers Sea Wolves
@davidtydeman143414 сағат бұрын
I guess thee significance of Cape Leeuwin is that it marks the end of the Indian Ocean leg which is the first real test of the race.

How are the boats measuring boat speed (not GPS speed) when they are foiling? Isn't boat speed through the water (vs GPS speed) a key input to TWA, AWD, TWS and AWS for the autopilot? Thanks for your channel. I enjoy these videos and your commentary.
@outdoorsandkayaking4 сағат бұрын
Hi, I would expect that they use satellite compass, which prodides information about the direction and speed of the boat movement together with the direction of the bow or heading. This information can be combined with wind instrument data to get the data you mentioned. The traditional way is to use a magnetic compass to provide the heading and speed through water measurement to get the speed to that direction. Satellite compass is much more accurate and not affected by magnetic variations etc.

Pip's making just over 100 Miles a day with around 400 Miles to go as I type this at 1740 Melbourne time . If she can keep up this pace and the jury rig can stand it and the weather forecast is accurate she's sail into a hole and then into north easterly between Flinders Island and about Apollo Bay. If she can stick this out, Port Phillip is possible, if not she might end up at Portland or Flinders Island which would be a pity. I'm sure her team have scrambled to Melbourne and there would be a welcoming committee at Victoria Harbour, if that is her destination...... Interesting isn't it?

Dont forget Pip will she make Melbourne?
@PatrickIrwin-y9h16 сағат бұрын
We are keeping a close eye on this Peter, being Melbourne based. She is making just under 100 Miles a day with, as I write this Sunday morning Melbourne time, just over 400 Miles to go. The next two or three days she will have good downwind sailing conditions, at about 4 days the breeze drops out and she gets headed. I think a lot will depend uon whether that jury rig lasts. The line to sail fixings are nowhere near sufficient to sustain any real breeze so I don't think they look good. I wouldn't be surprised if she ends up at Flinders Island. Patrick Irwin

Florian, the first name of Joann Richomme is acturally "our Johan" with an almost silent h. It's the old french form of Jean. Otherwise always nice to listen to your technical inside knowledge. Even though I would have liked to hear more how Guirec is doing after him having been thrown out of his bunk for more than 4m, him having quite a lot of blessures. I would also like you mentioning this incredible young woman Violette. When I hear Jean saying that one of the front sails weighs around 400kg I am wondering how she manages all that! I really think she deserves some consideration. We know by now how the front men are doing ;o)), it would not make so much difference to take some time for those behind! Thanks!

The Pacific Ocean meets the Indian Ocean at the Southeast Cape, the Southernmost point of Tasmania, down the meridian to the Antarctic Ocean. The Cape of Good Hope makes no sense as when you round that, you end up in Cape Town. Cape Agulhas is the geographical southern most point of the African Continent where South Atlantic and Indian Ocean meet. Conrad is correct. You are wrong. Perhaps you have lost your mind, or never had one to begin with.
@petes952420 сағат бұрын
Apart from being a spit of land adjacent to Cape Point, The Cape of Good Hope was the name change for the whole of the Cape, from the original name, The Cape of Storms

Why are you lying? The organizers simply ordered Charlie Dalin to give up. He deliberately chooses a route with worse wind than his opponent. The tracker will help you. Зачем врете. Просто организаторы приказали Charlie Dalin сдаться. Он заведомо выбирает маршрут с ветром хуже, чем у соперника. Трекер вам в помощь.
