Do you think Charlie and Yoann will indeed be so MEGA lucky? :)

Even though weather forecasting that far ahead is often inaccurate, I will go on a limb and say yes. The question is will one or both beat Armel Le Cléac'h's record?

For sure, they are away from the fleet now. Will a tail wind give Yoann any chance? I am not sure looking at the forecasts

thank you for spreading the sense of wonder. this race is becoming a poignant way of marking time, through the month, and through the years, thanks to you. greetings and vest wishes from big sky montana, where we await the return to deep powder and blue bird skies.

You’ve introduced polars and you’ve discussed how Yohan’s boat is more optimized for the southern ocean, while Charlie’s for the Atlantic. Have you by chance seen polars for these boats with and without foils and even both of these polars for the leader boats? I’m guessing that Charlie’s boat can achieve foiling at slightly slower wind speeds, which immediately boosts boat speeds, while Yohan’s boat is easier to avoid foiling in heavy seas, where extra speed could dangerously launch the boat over a cresting wave and crash the boat on the other side. So, going faster without foiling is good in the southern ocean, while foiling at slower speeds is better in the Atlantic. As far as I know, the Imocas are not allowed to twist/rotate their foils to compensate for this, but can redistribute cargo to help achieve the same goals without rotating. Might be fun to hear more of your analysis on why Charlie seems to currently have a slight boat speed advantage.

I am confused by your use of the term "POLARS". I hope this can be explained, new to me, and thought perhaps it was a typo at first. very interested.....

@@gregknipe8772 You might “google” “sailboat polar chart” for an intro. A polar is a chart that shows the speed a sailboat optimally can go under different directions and wind speed. Each of the IMOCAs will have a different chart for one foil down, leeward foil down, and both foils up, and these will vary by boat based on boat and sail designs.

Hello Florian, I have enjoyed your daily coverage of the Vendee Globe. I am a huge Pip Hare fan. I understand that Pip's sponser budget was on the smaller size. Could you speak to the corellation of the leaders and campaign funding?

The spread between the leaders and the back of the fleet is wild- almost 8,000 nm! What does that equate to in terms of crossing the finish line - almost 2 weeks or more behind?

Hearing about so many damaged and lost sails in the fleet, it's unfortunate the VG permits a max of only eight sails. When Conraid said Louis Duc had so many sails destroyed it underscores how easily performance and boat handling can be seriously debilitated by just one storm or mishap.

Is it dishearting being right at the back of the fleet being as you are almost half the planet away from the leaders

I would like to know what the extra lines are on end of Conrad's boom and what they do. There are more lines than just the main sheet.

These yachts have a crazy number of lines. Big difference from a typical cruiser even those that have similar number of sails.

Why don't they sail north to get away from icebergs?

The closer they sail to the exclusion zone the shorter their optimal route is.
