@thehoardedgrotto8521
@thehoardedgrotto8521 Жыл бұрын
How is this heartbreaking? They are explaining that they don't force that animals to do anything. The animals decide what they want to do and if they want the day off they get it. They have the best vet care in the world and they have special planned diets for each animals to meet that animals specific needs. That means whether they perform or not....they get the same amount of food. There are many reasons an animal might not want to participate...it could be springtime and they just want to flirt....it could be that another animal is far more interesting in the moment.
@dnaflowz
@dnaflowz Жыл бұрын
@@thehoardedgrotto8521 the behaviors they show within captivity are not natural. That’s what is heartbreaking and there are no whales in the wild that have flopped dorsal fins. Collapsed or collapsing dorsal fins are rare in most wild populations and usually result from a serious injury to the fin, such as from being shot or colliding with a vessel. Every whale they’ve ever had every single one has had a flopped dorsal fin. So they’re not healthy regardless of what diets they are giving them. And it’s been pointed at many times by experts just watch any documentary their behaviors like I said in captivity are absolutely not natural. In a day orcas swim about 140 miles do you see that here for them to swim?

@Rope the orca 4473 How have the animals fared with one another and health and mental issues individually. I know they used to harm themselves by swimming into tank walls they were having difficulties getting along with other whales and were not so healthy because of stress and depression issues said to be related to being taken out of their family pod and adapting to the tanks and possibly strange Orca from other pods and habitats. I have heard Sea World no longer needs nor tries to remove wild Orca relying on breeding that I was not aware they were successful at. This is great news and I wonder how calves born at Sea World adapt compared to wild young and / or mature whales. I m not against them keeping , training or showing if wild populations are left out and hope they are more successful with bred and born in their facilities. They would be Sea Worlds property in that case for sure. I visited their aquarium in Orlando years ago and before any problems or allocations were made. The animals such as seals and dolphins seemed fine and enjoying their new home. If these and the captive breed and raised Orca were somehow kept and proven to be adapting and getting along together and alone it would be a win for Sea World as well as a win for all Orca as these kept and displayed at Sea Worlds Aquariums would give children and anyone not familiar or have never seen a chance to do so and learn about all including wild pods and if or in the event they need sometg thing aiding in their survival people would help more so knowing about them and seeing live whales the only feasible way most ever will.

@Rope the orca 4473 That's actually even more sad. Sea World knows that this unnatural environment is causing their orca's mental health issues. But they keep breeding hybrids that will never be able to be released (the parents come from different killer whale subspecies that never interbreed in the wild), and holding onto their captive 'breeders' from family pods they stole from decades ago. Orca's are hunters and rely heavily upon their families to thrive. They are not circus clowns.

It is heartbreaking Sea World is still holding Orca's in captivity. The abuse starts before the Orca arrives at Sea World because mother and calf are separated. The trainers are also culpable because they turn up for work everyday to continue this abusive training which they call positive reinforcement. Living in the wild and then being shunted into a swimming pool must be similar to living in a large mansion and then moving into a garden shed for the rest of ones life. Sea World should receive a massive fine because of knowingly allowing animals to suffer and then be closedown.

I just LOVE IT when I see an Orca (that's their proper name, stop calling them "killer whales") chooses to stick it to their captors and exercise their free will!! Orcas are highly intelligent, highly sentient creatures that are forced to perform tricks and live a life of endless monotony and suffering in marine parks. A wild Orca has the span of the entire ocean to live, love their family, play and develop intricate, specialized hunting techniques specific to their unique prey. In the wild, they use their sentience and genius every day. But when they are captive, all of that is squashed and destroyed to make them "pliable" for their trainers and the audience. It's shameful. And p.s.- post Tilikum, they were supposed to limit their performances to "natural behaviors". One might ask,"how natural is it to perform tricks??". I'd say that much of the behavior exhibited in this video, though undesirable to the marine parks, is a much closer depiction of their natural behavior and free will. I can't wait for the day that new videos of captive Orcas performing at marine parks NO LONGER EXIST.

The orca (Orcinus orca), also called killer whale, is a toothed whale belonging to the oceanic dolphin family, of which it is the largest member. Orcas are commonly referred to as "killer whales", despite being a type of dolphin. Since the 1960s, the use of "orca" instead of "killer whale" has steadily grown in common use. The genus name Orcinus means "of the kingdom of the dead", or "belonging to Orcus". Ancient Romans originally used orca (pl. orcae) for these animals, possibly borrowing Ancient Greek ὄρυξ (óryx). This word referred (among other things) to a whale species, perhaps a narwhal. As part of the family Delphinidae, the species is more closely related to other oceanic dolphins than to other whales. Orcas are cetaceans. Cetaceans from Latin cetus 'whale', from Ancient Greek κῆτος (kêtos) 'huge fish, sea monster') are an infraorder of aquatic mammals that includes whales, dolphins, and porpoises.

Been decades since they have been taken from the wild. Where have you been? Most of them still around were born in captivity they would never survive in the wild. I'm guessing that's what you prefer that they live shorter lives. Maybe the could use a bit bigger pools, but nothing else makes since. Would you of survived if you were dropped off out in the world on your own growing up with no knowledge on how to survive in the wild?

After the 2013 Blackfish documentary exposure and the massive decline in tourism to Seaworld following. Seaworld announced in 2016 they would end their Orca breeding program and phase out their theatrical Orca shows. In 2020 Seaworld reversed course and re-introduced Orca theatrical shoes. Why? Because post-2016 people slowly forgot about Blackfish, and tourism to Seaworld recovered. Shame on all the people who visit Seaword Parks and watch the animal shows. It's because you and the business you give Seaworld that this amoral and barbaric practice is able to continue. All of Seaworld's Whales, Dolphins and Sea Lions should be released to large ocean pens and if possible under supervision the ocean itself, to live out the rest of their lives in peace. And the amoral captivity and enslavement of animals for entertainment must end permanently.

The thing about releasing whales who were born in captivity into the wild, is that they don't have some of the essential hunting and survival techniques that a whale born in the wild has. Although, Orcas are very intelligent, the ocean is a very different environment from the Seaworld tanks.

Thankfully sea world has ended its breeding program and the whales they do have will be the last. They aren’t allowed to capture wild whales anymore either. Unfortunately they can’t release the whales they do have because most of them were brown in captivity and wouldn’t survive in the wild. I think people should also fight for sea worlds other animals!

They can still be retired to sea pens. Organizations have offered to take on SeaWorld's Orcas and keep them in netted off coves, still not as much room as they would have in the wild, but that kind of living situation would be a *massive* improvement over their current one. Think of all the extra space! The sheer volume of enrichment! Honestly, the real reason why SeaWorld's Orcas shouldn't be released is because the majority of them still alive were bred in captivity, very few wild caught Orcas remain in captivity. The captive bred Orcas are mixes of various Orcas biotypes that wouldn't occur in nature (Like Southern Resident/Icelandic crosses, the Pacific and Atlantic oceans are literally continents apart from each other!), so they simply would never be accepted by *any* wild population of Orca because they doubtlessly "speak" a garbled dialect that no wild Orca would be able to understand. On the other hand, the few remaining wild caught Orcas *should* be released, at least some them. Corky II is the oldest surviving wild caught orca in captivity. She is a Northern Resident Orca, from the A5 Pod. She actually has living relatives in the wild! Two younger siblings: Ripple (Sister) & Fife (Brother), a niece (Midsummer) and three grand nieces and nephews (Fern, Eliot & Ne'nakw.) With this in consideration, Corky would be an excellent candidate for release. After undergoing rehabilitation, her pod could be located and Corky could be transported to them. Given that Corky should still speak her native dialect, her family would almost certainly accept her. Katina is aged female Orca, she is an Icelandic from an unknown pod. Given that her pod isn't known and she has multiple living children, grandchildren and even great-grandchildren in captivity, she is probably not a good candidate for release. Keiko (Star of the "Free Willy" film franchise) was an Icelandic Orca who was rehabilitated and released, his native pod was unable to be located and he never gained entry into a new pod. Katina would likely be placed in the same situation if release was attempted for her. Her bonds with her captive-born relatives (Who can not be released do to their mixed breeding), must also be taken into account and separating her from them would likely cause undue stress on the younger whales. Ulises is the second oldest male Orca in captivity. He is an Icelandic Orca from an unknown pod. Much like Katina, he is not a good candidate for release. His pod isn't known, meaning that it would be difficult, if not impossible, to locate them. Without a natal pod to support him after release, Ulises would probably meet a similar fate to Keiko.

@EDventures* I mean, I did say that two of SeaWorld's remaining wild caught Orcas aren't good candidates for release since reuniting them with their families is effectively a possibility. I still maintain that Corky II would be an excellent release candidate. Attempt a repeat of what was done with Springer. It's worth giving a short at the very least. Miami Seaquarium's Lolita is another wild caught Orca who I'm convinced would be a wonderful candidate for release. Much like Corky, Lolita's natal pod is part of a long-running research study (Unlike Corky's pod, Lolita's family are Southern Resident Orcas though) so it's known who they are, where they are and Lolita herself has shown that she still recognizes and responds to their calls. Hell, Lolita's mother is still alive even!
@Living_EDventures
@Living_EDventures Жыл бұрын
@emilycarrick3570 I get that. There is a chance that they could not be accepted into a pod either though. I just hope SeaWorld maybe expands the smaller pools they live in. I mean SeaWorld seems to be gearing up for other things to to take place for the future. For instance all the new roller coasters. Maybe that's what the eventual plan is to replace the the orcas with someday. I mean the orcas are a big part of their revenue. That can't just close the parks.

They should release the orcas together as a pod, instead of one at a time. They've lived together all this time and have already formed an hierarchy. Let the orcas maintain their own family, and they should be responsible for monitoring and feeding them (if necessary).. for the next 10 generations. They've gained so much financially they should have to give it back.

Sometimes they don’t feed them the right amount they feed during training and the whales don’t want to participate if the quantity of treats is down to one or two tiny fish and not 10 fish at a time. I still don’t think the whales should be inside those tiny pools. Yeah the tanks are still huge but so tiny in comparison to what they should have in the.(dorsal fins drooping) because of that. Maybe one day sea world along with other countries sea parks stop doing this to whales. Not just Orcas, but all intelligent sea life that need more space to swim and be healthy both physically and mentally. Imagine being in a small confined room with closets to enter. You are trained every day to perform certain things and then put in the closet before you can enter the room to perform. It is that life for these intelligent creatures. In the wild, they are hunting whales that live in huge pods and form family bonds and different whale dialects among their pods. They understand some human boats are dangerous for them and teach their young to swim the opposite direction and hold their breathe just to get away from certain whale hunting ships. They are so freaking intelligent that it’s insane we still try and make them perform for us. And if they misbehave or mess up they don’t get as big of a reward but still confined to a loud and small area. Ridiculous people are still wanting to watch performances of these whales with their children of these creatures and not feel sick or angry about it.
