Great video but i am here after a disaster. I have a replica pam111 which i love wearing it a lot. Today it came off because of a lose pin in strap and fell of the ground. It was not really high nor was it a big impact. When i took the watch i noticed it was not working anymore😢 i winded it, checked again but it didnt work. There seems no broken part in the mechanism but some wheels may have been dissambled. I dont know what to do. I feel like someone who lost a very close friend of his. 😢

Hi. This is most likely not Seagull ST36 but Hangzhou 9011. Screws under balance wheels are not blue but silver, Seagull usually has those blue as well. Minutewheel has 5 holes, there are diashock antishock springs and most importantly there is 18th jewel in the front :D - the one under ratchetwheel, mostly visible from the front.

@@tickingWATCH I recently purchased a pocket watch (Olympia 35030) with Chinese movement. It happened to me in the past that the watchmaker refused to repair similar movement, because the parts are not always compatible. So I started to dig the info, so I could tell apart Unitas from Seagull and Hangzhou. Hangzhou always has additional ruby/jewel under the dial, on ratchet wheel, manufacturer sells it as Hangzhou 9011A. Unfortunately, manufacturer does not specified lift angle on his web page. The one in your video and the one in my pocket watch are the same movements, and thanks to your videos I know its a pretty decent watch.

I think there are 19 jewels in this watch. There are 3 jewels in the center of the movement -- one in each bridge (that's 17 in total) plus one in the plate below (seen when the cannon pinion is pressed in). The 19th ruby, as you mentioned, is in the plate below the barrel.

Thank you for the great video! I am a beginner and want to start cleaning and oiling watches. I do not have cleaning machines. I think using degreaser or acetone and a brush would work instead. But I am concerned about using a brush on the balance spring. What do you suggest?
@tickingWATCH
@tickingWATCH 2 жыл бұрын
Definitely do not use a brush to the hair spring, especially in very old watches I have a bad experience with that. I don't even clean the balance in an ultra sonic cleaner. Eventually when you must have a very very soft one. I personally use only extraction gasoline, very clean. Should be in every hardware shop 👍

Does it run more accurately after servicing? (Was it lubed properly by the factory when made?) Rather surprising the plates, bridges, and balance arm were not scroll engraved during manufacture to make it look like a higher end movement. The sub $20 Chinese skeleton pocket watches are scroll engraved. Surely it does not add much to the cost of making the movement. (I think those pocket warches wiseawrist watch movement with an over-size dial.Te movement requires a 5 plus mm plastic spacer to "fit" (note quotes) in the pocket watch case. Are Seagull movements any good/long lasting?

Thank you for the beautiful video, just one question: usually the pallet fork pivot is not oiled (I don't understand why, but some watchmaker said it has a bad impact on the amplitude), is there a reason why you did @13:43? I mean this movement requires the pallet fork pivot/jewel to be oiled? Thank you for the beautiful video.
@tickingWATCH
@tickingWATCH 3 жыл бұрын
I'm really glad that you like it 😀. In general, you don't have to oil it because the force there is so small that oiling doesn't change anything and so it is written in watchmakers books but on the other hand, I saw in service manual from Seiko 7009A and also Miyota that you have to oil there (Moebius A extremely small). It seems that in Japan they have or another philosophy or the construction of its movements is different. My personal conclusion - lets oil but extremely small and rather avoid oiling in wristwatches movements with small pelets.
@fabriziodutto7508
@fabriziodutto7508 3 жыл бұрын
@@tickingWATCH Thank you so much for your kind reply! I always asked myself why they usually say to oil only the exit pallet. In your experience, no issue on the amplitude od the escapement wheel whatsoever, by oiling it?

With pallet is a similar situation. Ideally, is to oil exit pallet and after several ticks oil it again.

Just subscribed. Excellent as a tutorial excellent as a relaxing session.... wonderful. Thanks for sharing. I love this movement type and I have one with 6 o'clock subseconds. Mine works ok and keeps good time for three years now but when i wind it I hear a "click-slipping" sound which is very frustrating. Unfortunately I am no watchmaker... I KNOW what seems easy in the video is difficult in reality. Any idea about the problem? Maybe faulty winding pinion...I heard it's common on this movement. Seems like this one here is ok! Any advice is much appreciated. The least i could do is to subscribe.

I'm really glad that you like it 👍 On the solution of your problem could be using a washer under the screw that is holding the crown wheel, the goal is to reduce play but not to block it, so the washer has to be very, very thin. May help. The second solution would be to buy a new winding pinion you can find it on eBay or Aliexpress and just replace it 😀

I was watching a vid on the soon to come out Phylida "tin tin" mechanical chronograph and saw on Ali the movements are only £58 which for a Venus 175 clone or rather not a clone as Seagull bought Venus's actual production machines, I reckon I could given time build up an excellent mechanical chronograph then saw the Sekonda 3017 is built on a Venus 150 and was thinking.... hmmm I got a Sekonda 3017 dial, would it fit the ST19 I am wondering... then I can have the watch I want but without the £1000 price tag the sellers want for the Sekonda 3017s. BTW wishing happy new year and keep up the excellent work, this old 'un here is learning loads from your videos :D

That could probably be done but keep in mind that almost all of the dials for strelas, poljots and sekondas we see on ebay are also chinese. Original hands too are very hard to get. I had a very similar plan, but i gave it up as I know I would never be satisfied with an unoriginal watch. To cut a long story short I ended up getting a poljot 3017 with a beautifully aged dial for christmas from my family.
