actually he did respond to the question, the interviewer asked in spanish "how has ur character progressed or changed?" he responded with "i have not" meaning his character hasn't changed.. you do know both romanian and spanish come from latin which means he can most likely understand a bit of spanish. i might just know this because im a history nerd but these languages like romanian, spanish, french, portuguese, italian, catalan and romansh are basically just evolved latin. (these are the direct descendants of latin otherwise known as romance languages)
