His tyres were obviously on their last legs because the excessive vibration from his rear tyres broke the front wing showing just how bad those tyres were. Pre race, Leclerc had a slide on the outside of Turn 4, thanks to a strong breeze. Both went more careful around Turn 4 then, until Vettel tried to keep up with Hamilton to not lose P2 and having to try on the inside. I guess you can call him stupid for trying too much, but I'm happy enough with him trying to defeat Hamilton. And when it goes wrong, it goes wrong. And since Germany 2018 it always goes wrong.

Make that Formula 1 if he keeps on like this. Last year there were rumors Mercedes had their eyes on signing him. Why would they if he can't stop doing mistakes? It's unlikely Red Bull would re-sign him considering they have Max Verstappen and probably want some fresh new talent (Gasly isn't that impressive as of yet). Maybe Haas can be a positive new environment for him. People forget Vettel made mistakes at Red Bull already but since he won four straight titles they forgot all about them. Though in Vettel's defense it must be said that the pressure at Ferrari is on a whole other level than other teams. 1979 Ferrari would champion Jody Scheckter said it best:"You win with Ferrari and you'll be loved, you lose with Ferrari and they'll turn their back on you real fast."

Outsmarted by Hamilton who judged the headwind brilliantly. Vettel desperately tried to return the favour, went a bit too throttle happy. The front wing coming off is just bizarre and unfortunate to add on his mistake. As a Vettel fan would really want to see him clean up his underperforming trend lately and really show the might he’s shown before and 2012 in particular. He doesn’t deserve the ridicule(people calling him a fraud/try making a meme out of him), the guy’s one of the greatest and fairest ever in the sport for god’s sake. He deserves all the criticisms that’s due, but people should really stop abusing him like they did to Max(saying he’s a bumper car driver and comparing him with Kvyat). What a shame for Charles, he showed so much humility, maturity and resilience, even apologised to the mechanics for a mechanical failure that has denied him the race win.

Adam Collier it’s a bit daft to say someone who’s won 4 world championship in a very dominant fashion in 2 or arguably 3 seasons of those 4 “not one of the greatest”. He’s in a dominant car but if it’s all down to the car I simply don’t recall Mark Webber finishing every year in 2nd place. He’s been beaten by Daniel in 2014 but let’s not forget he dominated Kimi in the following years, who’s also a championship winner and still showing great pace both in race and one lap in an Alfa.

Vettel had quite a bit of bad luck as well this weekend. First the issue with only having one run in Quali and than in the race as well. Losing the rear was sort of on him, but getting that much damage as the result of a small spin is really a lot of bad luck. Had he not damaged the tires and consequently the front wing he'd still be in third place (and after LeClerc's issues probably P2).
