Absolutely. For me, anyone who is in shape, trains, and competes regularly, is an athlete. Athletic yes, that too, but when it's an integral part of their life and identity, I think it goes beyond just being athletic. I'm 66, in excellent health for my age, and I have a few attributes that are very rare for dudes my age, some of them martial. So I'm in shape and I train daily, but I don't compete at all, much less regularly, so I do not consider myself an athlete,. I consider myself fit or athletic, but not an athlete. I call my friends who compete hard in local sports leagues athletes, but if one of them went pro, I would definitely modify that to refer to them as a professional athlete. I think Sebastian's bar is too high.
