The Godfather of modern football. The most influential mind of the game. Brilliant player, brilliant coach and brilliant thinker. Not because of what he won or didn't win. But because of his vision and ideas. So ahead of his time that people still don't completely understand what he was talking about. Yet what he talks about is so simple and logical.

So basically van Gaal but far less successful as a manager.
@seven920232 жыл бұрын
@@patchh15 He is successful cause the modern game is largely based on his vision. He influenced two nations and two clubs in different countries. Van Gaal followed the path Cruyff set up.

@@patchh15 Van Gaal won one CL and reached the final one more time; so did Cruyff; so how can you say Cruyff was less successful?!!! If I am not mistaken, Ajax won a different European cup in 1992; can't remember whether Van Gaal was in charge; but even if he was, Cruyff did the same thing in 1987 with Ajax. Cruyff won 4 (to the best of my recollection) La Liga titles with Barca; Van Gall might have won few more; but it is not a huge gap. Finally, Cruyff retired as manager in 1996; he was manager for about 12 years, where as Van Gall didn't retire until 2-3 years ago, and then took the charge of Holland last year. I just remembered VG reached the CL final 2 more times; the 2-nd time in 2010 with Bayern.

What Cryuff was saying here was...if Egos like Bergkamp, Gullit, VanBasten.. etc wont attack hard and aggressively....and are saving their legs for club teams...ie Arsenal, Milan etc...then the National team is a joke and will never win...very discretely of course.....

Offensive, creative, imaginative, aggressive football. That's the game the people want to see played. I think both Mourinho and Guardiola have been guilty, in different ways, of playing football purely for results. It's a spectator sport. Give us what we want!

He has said some profound things, but this certainly isn't one of his shining moments. Of course, Netherlands were going to play when Brazil were already 2-0 up. It is natural in a knockout game for the side in a commanding position to look to protect their lead. If Netherlands had the so called aggression or superiority in them, they'd have been given the chance at 0-0. But no, Brazil were the superior team. They reinforced their superiority, scored two goals and then naturally sat back, stayed organised and tried to protect it. Maybe with a similar mentality, Cruyff wouldn't have been trounced by Milan 4-0, despite Milan having some crtical players out.
