Don't sleep on John Paul Jones. Pick the instrument- he can play it like a virtuoso. Bass, 5, 6, 12 string, mandolin, piano, keyboard... He's the glue that holds the band together. He's always on, always perfect keeping the rhythm and melody when Jimmy and Robert go off.

@@Nrgheal He was in my very small city in NY, he was performing at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center, which I had tix for. I heard from a friend he, and the entire entourage, was staying in the charming downtown hotel. Robert shopped at the local vinyl store, (missed him there by one day), and was strolling the local area. Long story short I didn't know he was there until the next morning. I grabbed my original LZ I and headed to the hotel. I missed them by 5 minutes. Long story short, I drove to the venue, found the artists entrance, and waited over an hour for him to drive up. They stopped, he signed, I swooned.

How funny! I am also 65 and also met Robert last Father's day in Taos, NM. He was eating breakfast in a little restaurant sitting right next to us! We spoke to him for quite a while! He was so funny and down to earth! I too was 14 when i saw them in 1973 and have been obsessed with him for the past 50 years! It was all so shocking and miraculous! 😁

There are quite a few little slips, mostly briefly hitting the wrong string or unmuted open strings, but that's what comes from a passionate performance where feel is more important than clinical precision. I wish I could play with a fraction of Page's panache. It's truly wonderful stuff.

The Yardbirds were known for having the 3 best guitarists in rock in their band at various times. It started with Eric Clapton. When he. left they got Jeff Beck. then the last was Page. The amazing thing is when the Yardbirds broke up they still had commitments in Scandinavia for some shows. Jimmy being the one left had to scape a band together in a month and rehearse before satisfying the commitment. He got John Paul Jones from the Sessions world and worked with him back when Page did that. For drums and singer Page was forced to go with two obscure guys in the midlands of England because no one else was interested. What Page ended up with was a band of all GOATS. And the greatest rock band in history.

Page also had complete control over producing editing mixing of their albums, which they may have been the first to do that. They also got it to where they got 90% of ticket sales, rather then only 10%. They broke ground in many ways, Plant also did the accounting for the band, saving them lots of money. Everything they do is amazing, some songs you’ll like more then others, but none are bad.

Actually it was Peter Grant the manager that got them the 90 percent and worked with their finances along with Page. Peter grant changed the way rock artists were treated and paid in those days and made sure the band got their money.

Peter Grant was the 5th member of Zepellin, & it was because of him they got a £200,000 advance before they had even produced an album, at the time, that was unheard of, when they were called the New Yardbirds, he alone rewrote the manager's rule book for musicians. One of his innovations was that he realised as early as 1971, that all of the fans were coming to see Zepellin, so he decided that there would be NO support band, & if you went to a Zepellin concert you were going to see just Zeppellin. It was because of Grant that Zepellin became very rich, very quick, when bands in the 60,s were being ripped off left, right & centre, after less than 2 years they became the biggest band in the World, the Beatles had just split up & by this time they were outselling the Stones 2-1. Grant said to Jimmy " you lot concentrate on the music, & i wont intefere, & leave everything else to me", there will never be another Band like Zeppelin, or another manager like Grant. There are many interviews out there on youtube, of Jimmy, Robert, & John Paul saying about how he was the perfect manager. R. I. P. Peter Grant - 1935 - 1995.

Born in '67 I was part of that lost generation that missed everything that was cool about the 70ties, at least so it was in my perception. Fortunately my much older brother and sisters hat all those cool records, so just after the party was over, early eighties I was exploring in depth all that good music from that golden period. As a stranger within my own generation. Led Zeppelin was so damn good! I am very glad that the younger generation also starting to appreciate the quality of the music of that age. Looking back there was ofcourse also a lot of good music in the 80ties like Dire Straits, U2 Talking Heads, Roxy Music and Prince. But I still find the 70ties special. This life concert just shows how good Led Zeppelin really was. No tricks, no polishing voices and guitar with smart software. Raw and pure and perfect it is. Real craftmanship. Strong personallities that had something to give and to present and to tell to their audience.

I got to see Led Zeppelin live twice in the 70s then saw Page and Plant on their 94-95 tour then Jimmy Page with the Black Crows on '02. My second career was doing concert venue, tour and artist security. I also have been a drummer for 53 years and formed a band and am a drummer because of Bonzo and Zep as a whole. I had the pleasure of running back stage security for Robert Plant and the Amazing Space Shifters at the Santa Fe Opera House in 2019 where I sat on the backstage deck watching the sunset and talking with Robert Plant one on one for almost an hour. In this case meeting one of your heros (when I was 59 yrs old) was an awesome experience. I got to work him again last June in Taos NM with Allison Krause...awesome! I just retired from doing the security work and I have tons of great memories and as many awesome stories, some good some bad. If you ever get to see Plant live it's worth the cost of the ticket.

My first time hearing Zepplin was at a party in 1969. I saw them live 3 times including this song, and their debut of Zep IV at the Boston Gardens. Without a doubt, the biggest musical influence of my life. Also one of the biggest pleasures as when I pick up my guitar a Page composition always comes out first. Every single one of them are/were a different level of musician. John Bonham (RIP) - arguably the best drummer in any genre; John Paul Jones to this day is an amazing bassist and keyboardist; Jimmy Page - still amazing; Robert Plant - still unparalleled! I am privileged to have seen them!

This is Jimmy's best guitar work on camera, probably. Months before this performance, he had a string of accidents including getting his hand slammed in a car door, to his fingers, it is amazing he was able to play at all. I saw Plant and Page in concert in 1997, and I was in the prescence of GODS. I stared at Jimmy's fingers on the big screen most of the show in amazement. Jimmy played a telecaster earlier, then switched to this particular Les Paul because it had a great sound (he got it from Joe Walsh, of Eagles, James Gang, and solo work fame (Rocky mountain way)

Thank you for this video. Led Zeppelin is the greatest band of all time, and seeing the new(er) generations discovering them will never get old. When you said that Page had the sound that you’ve sought since you were a kid, I felt that. Along with Zeppelin, there’s another name you need to know, and that’s Jeff Beck. Try looking up his “demo” of Hendrix’s Little Wing, and then Stevie Wonder’s “‘Cause We’ve Ended As Lovers” live at Ronnie Scott’s. You will not regret it, he IS that sound.

Watch their Kashmir Live on Celebration Day. They were in their 60's and still rocked it. Amazing video and performance. This concert was held in 2007, their one-off reunion show and holds the world record for the highest demand for tickets for one concert...20 million.

Thanks for a great reaction. Born 1954 in the UK I grew up with the Beatles but when Zep hit us it was a whole new level. All 4 players are stand alone excellent musicians and the level of conscious connectivity between them musically is astounding. This track in particular is blues jazz rock fusion and beautifully constructed. When Plant says "now listen, just you listen", Page goes into a continuo mode reminiscent of Italian belle canto opera for Plant to deliver the tradegy of the "front door opens the back door slams back door man" heart of the song. The final jazz chord is sheer genius because it pulls the rug out from under the whole emotion you have gone through because..hey...we got a lot more songs for you tonight....wow.

Thank You for this. The emotion in this sound was incredible when I saw it live. I tell people that Led Zeppelin took me emotionally to places I could never get to before or after hearing them. It was just a transcendental experience.

You are correct! I watch every reaction to this song. It is by far my favorite LZ live performance. And, yes, I watch to see the light go on like it did in me. Led Zeppelin has been the soundtrack to this life for me. Their music, each song, is like a good friend I've trusted since I was a little kid. For over 50 years they've been reliable and my go to in difficult moments.

I always thought he should have been appreciated so much more than he was. Led Zeppelin were multi layered and played 3 distinct types of music (no other bands did this) ... they played hard driving rock, Mississippi Delta Blues and English Folk music.

The thing I love about all of this guitar Page does this whole time is that he is pretty faithful to the minor pentatonic first box, and that Albert King box in the 2nd position, but occasionally strays into boxes 3, 4, and 5 for the really high bits. Despite all of that, he accomplishes pure magick. This music is THE foundation of the rock that came fsince them.

I’m 54. Been listening to Zep since I was a kid in 1975. Page is a wizard. If you want to hear him shred the Scotty Moore licks, listen to bootlegs of Whole Lotta Love from 1970-73. Others were more consistent through the years, but few had the touch, feel and tone of Jimmy Page.

You sir, are listening to THE rock gods playing to us unworthy plebes. All others are mere upstarts, demigods, aspirers of the crown and throne. These guys are the absolute pinnacle of rock and roll! I mean, these guys literally got off a flight from the UK, already sleep deprived after being up for a couple days, and they STILL played Madison Square Garden at the peak of their ability! At least, that is how the legend of this performance goes. You can see Jimmy Page barely keep his eyes open in some videos of this show. The discography is so varied, but also heavily layered in blues with jazz improvisations scattered throughout. If you haven't sat down and listened to their entire catalogue, you REALLY should. My favorite album is "Physical Graffiti", but that's like picking which of your children is your most favorite! As for this video, there is a version of this performance that is live and unedited that shows the audience reaction. They go from absolutely mesmerized to stoned appreciation, and one woman sitting with her guy looks like she had a mental orgasm from Jimmy playing guitar! Funny to think those same people today are in their 70s and 80s! You MUST look deeper into Led Zeppelin, because these are the true gods of rock and blues!

Zeppelin are the Goats. As far as mistakes, a better way to put it maybe is ad-libbing, although some could be mistakes. But Jimmy was never one to try and play a song technically precise live. I saw him in a interview once saying that,that was the beauty of playing live you play how you feel and it's all part of the experience even the mistakes. Unlike most modern acts where everything is rehearsed and choreographed down to the last detail, they gave you a different performance every night and saving the perfect execution for the studio albums. Anyway, great reaction the more Zep the better. I would like to request reacting to "Ten years gone" great song.

Led Zeppelin 1 and 2 are so powerful. 3 is my favorite. 4 is probably they best seller. And they just continued to polish they skills and make such good music. I love music. I love so many, many bands. But Zeppelin are rock god living on top of the mountain.
