Much like Pulse is for Pink Floyd, Live at Central Park for DMB is tits. Don't drink the water, Jimi thing and Cortez the killer at Central Park are great. Best version of All along the watchtower is live at Red Rocks. They do it better than Jimi Hendrix. He also does a great version of long black veil with Emmy Lou Harris.

DMB live is a spiritual experience. There's no other way to describe it. I saw them play 25 times in 2002 alone and no show was even remotely the same. I got a firedancer tattoo to commemorate that part of my life - my teens and 20s. Bartender is a favorite and I've always said I would like it to be played at my funeral. But their performance of Seek Up on 7/30/01 is mythical... for me, the single greatest performance in music history.

I was at this show! Remember.. this is what they OPENED with! Dave is my absolute fav! I am tattooed.. my kids have initials.. I have a vanity license plate.. if you want to see the BAND, check out All Along The Watchtower from Central Park.. I was there as well.. 120k people.. $20 tickets.. it changed my soul.. the song is a bit long but it showcases almost all band members.. point of note.. it was also almost exactly 2 years post 9/11..

You spoke of Dave's voice. Let me tell you something: I came across DMB for the first time in 1997 on VH1. "Don't Drink The Water" was the song. I've barely ever had a reaction like this to hearing a song for the first time. I felt like I had waited for this song my whole life. Like I had waited for Dave's VOICE my whole life. I became a fan in that moment.

Dave Matthew's Band is one of the greatest bands of all time. Name another band that has a world-class drummer, violin player, horn section, and a bad ass bass player. I have been a huge fan since the early 90s. I have seen them more than 20 times and each time was a unbelievable experience. Please check out Seek Up (Epic Wailing Version). Tripping Billies, Dreaming Tree, The Stone, and 41 are some of their best songs. And my personal Favorite All Along the Watchtower. A Bob Dylan song made famous by Jimi Hendrix and perfected by DMB.

I'm subscribing b/c I hope you'll do more Dave. Let me tell you a few things you'll find interesting: #1: You can listen to the same song in different formats (Dave by himself, Dave with someone like Tim, Dave with the full band) and each version is equally good, but for different reasons. #2: I used to work at the biggest concert venue in the Bay Area. I've seen probably a thousand concerts, no one brings the passion like Dave does every single night. The musicians in his band are amazing as well. #3: Dave is a COOL person and super unpretentious. He's donated a small fortune to charity, his songs have deep meanings, he stands up for important issues in the world. #4: The Warehouse Sessions has Dave + only his drummer Carter (so instead of Dave & Tim, it's Dave & Carter) and Dave plays piano on one of the songs there. #5: Most concert tickets sold in the last 40 years: #1: U2 = 26M+ #2: Dave Matthews Band = 23M+ #3: Rolling Stones = 22M+ #4: Bruce Springsteen = 20M+ #5: Elton John = 19M+ Great reaction... wait until you hear the whole band live. Cheers!

That entire concert was just nuts, in the shadows of 9/11… also imo the peak of DMB as a band, still having LeRoi and Boyd, Warren Haynes sneaking in for some licks… I wasn’t at that show but damn I wish I was. I’ve seen them @ Red Rocks (either 95 or 96, it was an early live release), at the gorge a few times, countless times at Alpine Valley (more local to me), VA Beach, and yes I was lucky enough to see them in the very beginning at “the warehouse” when I was about 10 years old… All the times I’ve actually been there I really wish I was there in Central Park

The Trevor Hall shout out was one I wasn’t expecting. I also dealt with some fairly severe anxiety in that same timeframe and the song Green Mountain State from the album Chapter of the Forest was a staple in my rotation when I needed to bring everything down a notch. Anyway, DMB is definitely a unique band that some people unfortunately love to hate. They’re incredible, though. Obviously this wasn’t a good example but Carter is a truly unreal drummer. These dudes still bring it and somehow Dave has maintained his voice for over 30 years now. Definitely recommend seeing them live.

There is NOTHING like DMB live. One of my favorites by him is “Sister” … which has a really sad backstory, he grew up in South Africa and his sister was murdered by her husband. He wrote the song in the POV of her husband when/after he did it… all of his songs are so unique and that’s why they are still relevant after 30 years. Great reaction ☺️

DMB is definitely an experience! That band gives 1000% every show, and I have never had a bad time. He is genuine and accessible. Again, commercial success is not a gauge for me, as genres change continually. The ones that sustain typically are the ones that are truly talented and simply like to create art. I think you would really like more live shows ( any) but really enjoy some solos with Timmy. He is truly a unicorn!

I will be seeing DMB Friday night at the Bourbon & Beyond Festival in Louisville. Dave is an experience like no other. Many call his band the ultimate jam band and I would agree. He was one of the most popular bands in the late 90s and still has a massive following. Go down that rabbit hole, you won’t be disappointed. His guitarist Tim Reynolds is definitely one of the most underrated you will ever hear and you should check out some of his and Dave’s acoustic material.

Ah! You found DMB! Heh. If you want the jam band experience - 'Two Step' from the Central Park concert is fantastic introduction to their stuff. Bit longer - it's like 18min? 19min? But it vibes so hard and is a great demo of being at a live DMB show. :) (I mean, if you're going to drop into DMB music, might as well go for the full 20min long jam fest live versions, right?) I don't know about other DMB fans - but for me, the studio versions are alright. The live show versions/experiences are why I'm a nearly 30-year fan at this point.

Good on who put you watching this duo instead of the whole band. They know what you are talking about. The full DMB is fine, and all, but if you are a guitarist and into meditation and (generic, or eastern) spirituality, then this is probably much more up your alley. Also, this entire live album is absolutely amazing. Highly recommended. Funny you mention albums during tough times, Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds acoustic set at Luther College (which as a whole I actually find superior to the Radio City Music Hall version), was what I listened to daily, every day while running my landscaping route in 2001. I had a LOT of things that needed to heal and grow. They were truly integral to my healing.

DMB is one of those bands whose notoriety comes more from their live shows than from their studio albums (though their studio albums are incredible as well). My intro to Dave Matthews was the Live at Luther College acoustic double live album way back in, I believe, 1996. It was just him and Tim Reynolds with their guitars. If memory serves me right, I believe this show at Radio City Music Hall was part of a tour that he and Tim did 10 years after that tour in 1996/97 kind of as a reprise or sequel to the original acoustic tour. I saw the full band on tour in 2004 as well. They put on an incredible show - such a high level of creative musicianship from guys who have played together for 30 years.

I started listening to them when I was 12. 22 freaking years ago now. They are still just as good, if not better! I love the popular songs obviously, but here’s a B-side song. You never know live VH1. It’s the full touring band around 2002 on the rooftop in NYC. They ended up playing a whole 45 minute set but it’s crazy time signatures, odd tunings, amazing lyrics and when you think you can get the count down, the infamous Carter Beauford goes from 6/8->5/8->6/8 and think there is some 4/4 in there somewhere.

I did enjoy the DMB hits that were popular on the radio. Crash, GraveDigger, AntsMarching, etc. I did sort of mock my friends that were super fans. About 9:50 “I live that his live performances are completely different” You have no idea how many people that I got hooked on Dave because of this… they all said oh “crash into me”, he’s just a 90’s radio one hit wonder… then you see him and the band live and he opens with an acoustic needle and the damage done and continues into a ripper of a set. I’ve seen him sober, drunk and high, tripping on different things, in perfect weather, in thunderstorms and even tornadoes… always just a hell of a weekend no matter how it shakes out… And sorry again but I just really miss LeRoi and Boyd…

A funny/gross story about The Dave Matthews Band. I was visiting Chicago once, early in this century. If you've been to Chicago, you know that the downtown bridges, over the Chicago River, are draw bridges. They aren't made of concrete (which would be solid), they're made of steel bars, and have a perforated appearance. One day I was contemplating going on a River Tour Boat, that goes up the River with all kinds of information about the city. I eventually chose to wait a day for that. The next morning, on the local news, I heard that there had been some problems with The Dave Matthews Band Tour Bus. It turned out that the Tour Bus had, inadvertently, unloaded the septic tank while sitting on one of the bridges. The sewer matter went through the bridge, and onto one of the Tour Boats. I have never been more secure in my choice to skip the Tour Boat that day, than any other choice I've made in my 58 years.

Funny enough, I’ve been hearing Trevor hall at the coffee shop I “work from home” at. I just told the barista the other day how I thought he sounded like Dave Matthews.

Yes please check out more DMB especially live stuff they feed off each other. Carter Beaufort is a beast of a drummer! But they are tight as a collective.

I would be remis if I didn't come here and recommend that you react to "41" from this exact same concert. It makes me tear up every single time it's a beautiful song.

@Sebs Duran - As a long time DMB fan, here is my absolute favorite live video of the full band. LeRoi Moore plays sax on this song and he passed away several years ago and to me, he was the soul of the band. Their sound has lost the jazzy feel that I loved, but LeRoi's solo in this one just kills me every single time I hear this song. - kzbin.info/www/bejne/pXq0poSnndN_ftksi=e8dv_bcwbk1ax-v7

If you don't recognize Satellite, then you should get the music and try to play it on guitar. Then listen to the version. I'm not going to pretend that it is the greatest song, but it's definitely different.
