Zhiyun CRANE 2 - Set Joystick Control speed | Best Settings for smooth movement

Here is how I set up the Pan and Tilt speed for the Joystick control on the Zhiyum Crane 2.
The original settings where WAY to fast and altering the PTZ settings via the Android app did not appear to make any difference.
By using the desktop app you can save your changes quickly and easily.

Here is a video created from my 1st test with the Crane 2 and GH4 combo: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eJabnIltgKuJe9E I shot this with the Sigma 17-50 f/2.8 HSM lens, which is an awesome lens for this Gimbal due to the Image Stabilisation. The doiwnside of this lens is that the Zoom is external so the barrel extends when zooming, however, the real beauty of the Crane 2 is that due to its powerful motors, it can handle the lens and keep it stable despite the shit in weight distribution caused by the barrel extension....I am super impressed.

honestly the best tutorial .. short-uncomplicated-and no annoying youtube attitude! thank you! i'm filming a product video and i really went mad about my crane2..couldn't get very smooth movings without shaking or going to fast,and YES the APP for android is crap.. and if you are controlling the crane with your hand you never get 100% smoothnes..thanks again buddy !

Yeah, thanks dude. Its success with my Crane Plus. Before cant reload save setting with zhiyun app when zhiyun turn on. Only change when its connecr with zhiyun app. Now, its perfect work with slow control 👍

Thanks for your message. The Spirit level bubble is part of the Arca Swiss Quick Release plate I use on the Crane 2. The Crane comes with a Manfrotto plate, but I use an Arca tripod. I purchased the mount from Amazon here: amzn.to/2P5ryX9 , I hope that helps.

I followed the installation steps, get a "Link Successfu" in the left bottom corner, but no access to the settings. The big white chain sign is disconnected. I tried it for hours on 3 different devices without success. Very frustrating! I had the joystick moves already set to slow years ago but for whatever reason i installed the app on my phone again and it reseted all my ⁸ settings 😡 Do you have a solution?

Hey - I noticed you're using the Andoer quick release plate with the Sigma and GH5 - does this balance ok (do you need to have the plate very far back to balance)?

TRINDER FILMS Hi, great spot. The camera is a GH4, so a little smaller than a GH5....but yes it does balance perfectly. It would be better without the Arca base plate, but my main Tripod is a smaller Benro so not compatible with the Larger Manfrotto plate the Crane 2 comes with.

Hi, very good video however it appears to be out of date as there no longer seems to be a desktop version of the app downloadable from the Zhiyun website; it offers Zhiyun Play only and as before the joystick settings are not retained in the gimbal. Therefore I have to run the smartphone each time as soon as I've powered up the gimbal. Or am I missing something? Thanks.

That was a quick reply, thanks! I did find the desktop link whilst poking around earlier today. The link I found was: www.zhiyun-tech.com/crane2?from=download Then under the Calibration Upgrade Tool it was necessary to click on a semi-transparent arrow under "Mac OS" to find the Windows download. The download is a zip file called: Zhiyun_Gimbal_Tools_for_Windows_v1.3.4.zip Easy from there. I changed the Control Rates from 25/25/45 to just 2/2/2 (not available lower than 10/10/10 in the smartphone app) and get great slow pans etc. Its a learning curve for sure e.g. if I clicked for "default settings" in the desktop app it changed Motor to Low and closed Canon rather than it just defaulting the specific Deadband, Following Rate, Control Rate, and Smoothness. Also, with Canon the functionality of the gimbal focus wheel varies according to which lens is used e.g. with a Canon 24-105 f4 IS I have to switch autofocus off in the lens barrel to get it working with the focus wheel. Different on some older lenses and on Sigma. Thanks again.

THANK YOU! Very grateful to you, Sir! Curious, How did you even discover there was a Desktop program for ANYTHING OTHER THAN firmware upgrades? Giant surprise! I have a new Crane 2 and really had NO IDEA you could do these adjustments via Desktop. Indeed, the very brief instructions included with the gimbal do not say a single WORD about the existence of a desktop application (at least I can't find it). I have an Android (Galaxy S7) and the security and bug complaints have kept me away from the ZY Play App, forcing me - until I saw your video - to consider purchase of a dedicated iPhone just for the purpose of communicating with the Crane 2. Bottom line, you saved me some serious bucks and a bunch of wasted time and effort. ****EDIT**** The desktop application is no longer there at zhiyun-tech dot com. Bummer.

Really nice video! When i stop pan or tilt through Joystick, it stops like an immediate break, it is not seamless (my Joystick control is set to 20%, smoothness 200.l%,Follow rate 60%), I want it to stop slowly, not like an abrupt cut... Do you know how to stop pan or tilt motion smoothly like fade out (Through Joystick) .. In FOLLOW MODE, when you stop a Pan or a tilt motion , it pans or tilt a bit longer before stopping and fades out slowly that's really nice and seamless stop... But on joystick when i stop, it stops at the same time like a break.. Your help would be much appreciated.

Hi, thanks for your comments. I have just plugged my Crane 2 in to see if I can help you with this. It appears that there is currently no function to ease in/out of the motion with the joystick control....at least I am experiencing the same as you. The FOLLOW mode eases in and out nicely, but the SMOOTHNESS settings do not affect the joystick. Sorry I cannot be of more help, it looks like it is currently not an option.

These are just the default settings in the gimbal. I have not felt the need to change these.

@@Sebski22 But at 2:17 the settings show differences in follow rate and smoothness settings (e.g. Smoothness default is 100 not 200).... or have you since reset these to default and just adjust control rate?

Were you able to properly balance this setup with the method method detailed in the manual provide by Zhiyun? Just wondering because I have the Canon 80D with the Sigma 18-35 and wasn’t able to properly balance it on all of the axes of the Crane Plus.

Jed Sallee Hey, yes I was able to get mine balanced just fine. I am not sure if the Crane Plus is different to the Crane 2 or not, so that may be the issue. But I cannot see the crane2 having issues with an 80d and 18-35. I have seen others using counter weights to help balance their setups...that might be worth a look for you.
