Louisiana is getting another city after a six-year effort by organizers.
On Friday, the state Supreme Court granted the formation of the predominantly White City of St. George, which will be separate from Baton Rouge.
The ruling is sparking concerns about segregation.
Advocate Gary Chambers, who explained how this all happened in a recent social media post spoke with Roland Martin about the outrageous move to create a white enclave.

@@PD-yd3frthe people that live in that area don’t pay most of the taxes. Baton Rouge proper isn’t poor. They pay also. The taxes spoken of come from sales taxes. The area was designed and built up with infrastructure as a retail engine for the entire parish to benefit from the taxes… all of the retail for the region is in that area. That’s why BR never annexed it for its own. Now that St George is incorporating it, that engine no longer supports all(as all of us built it) it would only support St George. There's only one problem with old baton rouge. They are fighting this because st George pays 80% of the tax of baton rouge. St George has less business taxes so that businesses can flourish and much more employment. The mayor is shaking in her pants because she lost 80% of the budget. St George was only getting about 40% of total tax revenue for things like schools and the rest was for the rest of baton rouge. You can't blame them for leaving. They pay so much taxes and only wanted a school district. The mayor would not allow it so they decided to secede so that they could finally get their own school district. Baton rouge is screwed now that no one is paying enough taxes to even pay the city employees let alone the rest of the budget

I'm going to say this, the Louisiana Governor's election was decided back in 2020 during COVID-19. The current governor who was the State's AG practically secured his governorship via the radical actions he did. So honestly it was nearly impossible because there are more Right Wing Conservatives that live in Louisiana and they even live in the cities. Honestly, I think even if every African American voted he would have still won simply because places like Port Allen, Walker, etc. that are practically made up of more Conservatives than anything and the people that are on the fence typically vote along party lines.

Then they came back with creating their own city. The lines look like a jigsaw puzzle. Cut out any area that was low income. We've had some business who did not want to be apart of this new city and removed themselves. They tried to grab the mall and all of the hospitals. They feel like they pay the most in taxes and all they see is improvements going to North BR and Mid-city. Those are the areas that need it. Their area of town has been getting most of the improvements. This affects schools. Families may have to sell their homes to be in the area of their kid's school b/c they don't want to pull them out of a school they're satisfied with. A bunch of mess.

If they were not given opportunity with their tax dollars for schools seems tax dollars are taken away from certain areas. St. George will either fall on their face or succeed. I’m black and I don’t think this has anything to do with racism. It has more to do with how the City of Baton Rouge is being run. Baton Rouge is a city Democratic policies have run into the ground. It’s horrible down there.

It’s simple nobody wants to be around terrible schools, violence and theft. There’s black folks making their way out as well. No black professional wants to be around that either. It’s not just BR, Atlanta is the same way folks moving to buckhead and other areas to get out Atlanta!

How does this change per capita spending for Baton Rouge? If the people who are now St George were receiving their fair of services based on what they paid IN, then you don't need to worry because St George is providing these services for them now.
