I don't know on this one, I can go either way. I think it is okay to tell your kids no ice cream but not because he did not win. Nowadays everyone gets a medal for participating of which I do not agree. However he seemed like a douche for talking about her parenting skills, I know she did it first but it was his delivery. Not a nice dude.

While I do think that saying “Ice cream is for winners” is a little harsh to a 6 year old, I do understand the philosophy. The “everybody gets a trophy” philosophy will instill the idea that the child doesn’t need to work towards becoming better, whether it be in basketball, academics or anything else because he’ll have the idea in his mind that he’ll reap the rewards whether he works hard at it or not. It would be healthier to establish beforehand that he can have ice cream if he wins rather then tell him “Ice cream is for winners” afterwards

I don’t entirely disagree with the dude in his philosophy but the way he started acting, and talking to her killed any support I would’ve had. Like dude you don’t have to be such an a-hole and start talking down to the girl you were literally begging for another date. Like just get bent and suck it up

Precisely. He’s a DB. Now maybe before the game there was the talk about ice cream if your team wins. But, I mean, according to this guy, he’s less of a loser than [name your very favorite athlete here]. The philosophy holds zero water.

Dad was acting like a dad and she was acting like a mother. That’s normal. I did the same thing to my son. Now he is a best player in his school team and club team basketball. My wife does just opposite. Whenever my son does not get things from me, he gets from my wife. I pretend like I don’t know.

I agree with his ideology, and honestly he probably wasn’t hard on his kid like the woman said. Most men are non emotional and usually say things with no emotions so to him he didn’t see it as a big deal because of how he said it. The woman keep in mind she doesn’t know his kid, she doesn’t know how he acts, what he can do, and not well enough to be able to pickup on the child’s emotions as well as the acting parent. So I feel it’s a bit biased to hate this guy, just because he got offended at what the woman said. She was attacking his parent style and called him a jerk, she literally insulted him and was definitely implying his parenting style is trash. Did no one remember that? No instead everyone is focusing on the guy insulting her back. He was treated as the bad guy the moment the woman said he was a jerk to his child. So the guy being pissed is correct in this situation.

You do whatever you have to do to motivate someone to become their best selves: women are usually all about "live, laugh, love" and men are usually all about "you are scum if you dont keep trying and level up", even as kids... So, this single mom opinionating on how to raise a young boy is just ridiculous, she doesnt even know the kid, how would she know about how to effectively motivate him

Parents, generally fathers, think their children will become professional sports players when they grow up, lol. How about emphasizing excellence in education instead? btw who bought all these participation trophies for these kids? Their parents...blame the parents, not the kids.

No Robert, in 20-30 years you will wonder why your kid is not visiting you. What an absolute piece of work this dude. Rebecca dodged a big bullet by going to that basketball game and have a slice of life rather than the curated version of this AH.
