He and my dad would be the same age. It will be another 10 years or more before their peers start dropping like flies. What’s more amazing to me is that it’s already been so long. I was 9 when he died. Life really is short.

I was born in Aberdeen (my dad went to school with Don Kobain) and I grew up in Montesano attending the same school where Kurt went (a decade earlier) after moving in with his dad. I met a substitute teacher that grew up with or around Kurt and krist who gave me a cassette tape that was extremely early recordings with a few songs I've still never heard them play even off the earliest underground or "bootlegged" material . This was the true "fecal matter" recording that is on a tape in Seattle @ the E.M.P. and also contained more of his t.v., movie soundbite collages. One of the songs lyrics were "you spray paint your hair, and then you become a punk rocker!! My dad unknowingly throughout or moved my copy after finding out my bro and I were doing dope. I'm hopeful that someone else will or has released the recordings to share an inside view of the genius he was already at that age.

Yes. SO many haters talk shit about Cobain, from teenagers, to celebrities…I have 0 respect for any hater that criticizes Cobain for having wrote “simple” songs. The truth is his arrangements were genius and between the melodies of the vocals and the instruments it is a lot more sophisticated in its total sum if melodies than the guitar parts alone + the guitar was simplified so that he could sing and play at the same time because in the beginning Cobain had difficulty playing and singing at the same time so he adjusted his writing to be able to play cleaner because he did want to appeal to a mads audience. He did work hard with the band to become famous.

This is the epitome and soul of Nirvana. It was made to be just like this. Kurt's screams/growls in the background or layered over riffs/breakdowns. The idea of dubbing cartoons or radio between tracks. Kurts vocals use his whole range and their guitar playing is at its best. Add that to the lineup of songs, this thing is like an explosion start to finish. Man you must've listened to this a million times lol.

Wow! THIS is THAT original tape where's that best version of Spank Thru is from. I had/have it on c-cass since 1994 and it's very good quality copy (even it's 3rd gen copy). Now mystery that has been around 30 years finally has been solved. Love Buzz/Big Cheese original -single source is here too. So great that you added this here! Thank you very much. I have a gig recorded at VHS year 1988. I got my copy 1998. I try to find it to digitalize it. I haven't seen it ever here on YT. But thanks anyway. A GREAT tape. And I can remaster this by myself. I've make a few masterings, remasterings, remixes (our band and my solo work and our c-cass master-tape) etc. so hissing isn't any problem. Woah... This made me very happy. ❤ Nirvana since 10/91, 11yo.

I wonder how many versions of this tape were handed out; In that dark period of civil litigation that was preceeded by Kurt's passing, you had to go to Italian manufactured cd's to get the "other stuff"; We had a glorious moment where in 2004 a version of the album that was originally planned for a 1994 release FINALLY came to fruition... but it doesn't have this stuff. I am subscribed to these videos, but honestly I don't keep up on any of the subscriptions I have... so finding this one today was a pleasant find. I think that these tracks may have been released in a different order on the 1994 Disc entitled 'Grunge is dead' - but I haven't closely compared the two tracks - if they are the same tracks, I think the Italians ever so slightly sped things up... I like the slightly reduced tempo as shared here. Thank you VERY much for posting this, and making me dust off some of my dusty cd's I had stashed in my closet. :)

I loved playing spank thru with my old band... The lyrics are hilarious taboot! I love early Nirvana! I always loved the raw sound they had. Even though Kurt would make some erroneous mistakes playing guitar, it made the music feel more genuine and real. I don't mean that Kurt was a bad guitar player by any means. On the contrary! Some people wrote him off as a simple power chord player but Just like Kurt said himself that he can't play like that famous flamenco guitar player dude but that dude can't play like Kurt does... Music is objective, there is no better or worse really. I do know however that it is so hard to write simple melodies like Kurt did. Just cus a song is easy to play don't mean it's easy to write...

I think these are just the recordings that are already found on the box set and the various "deluxe editions", but altered to sound like they came from a cassette. There are too many nuances in the official release that match the nuances in this alleged demo tape (like, specific voice cracks, swells of amplifier feedback, et cetera). It's possible this was a demo tape of those exact same recordings, but I guess the point I'm making is that these aren't new releases/recordings.

Hi! is this tape originally in mono? If you can get it transferred to wav with better quality, y can try to remaster it and improve the sound A LOT. There are lots of new audio correction tools that use AI . The results are unbelievable. I can also work with this, but just in case... if you need any assistance with a new transfer (what cables/devices/settings to use), just let me know!

My ex took all the tapes I had. They’re from when Kurt was 14 years old trying to figure out these songs…. It’s uploaded to my KZbin VHSRARITIES.

I am far from a Nirvana historian and like most history it is rife with gossip/rumor and speculation that is inaccurate but…I heard that Cobain was unhappy with Grohl because he knew Grohl was talented (maybe more talented than kurt at the time) and he resented that Grohl was holding back and saving material for a solo album instead of giving the songs to Nirvana to work on…Besides Grohl possibly holding back in the contribution process (i dont believe he was holding back THAT much btw) i heard he wanted Grohl to be more of something as a drummer…like he wanted a different style or writing process from Grohl- but they were all just kids around 24 and they didnt yet learn how to communicate better (which happens in 30s) so resentment built up due to words that were said in anger that couldn’t be taken back…Some fans prefer the drumming style of Chad (on bleach) but I heard Chaf left the band due to disagreements with the direction of Kurt…I do believe if Kurt had lived we for sure would have had more incredibly powerful songs regardless of who he chose as his drummer because both Kurt and Krist were a fantastic duo that together laid a foundation for memorable art. You Know Your Right is my favorite Nirvana track and it was the last one recorded…I am so sure if Cobain lived he would have wrote some happy songs and some love songs in his 30s…with About a Girl he proved he could write a love song- he simply needed more years of experience to get to the more happy stuff

The idea being promoted by Danny Goldberg that Kurt was in any way envious of Dave, is absurd. He said he had a nice voice for harmonies, and look what somebody tried to make that into. If you've ever been in a band, you know that it's more than just about playing although that is important- but it's likely Kurt grew to not like Dave as much personally- and I think that bore itself out with what Dave did in the Foo Fighters especially some of the more candyass songs. There's no way Kurt would have wanted to play some of that stuff.

Really enjoying all your uploads, thanks for taking the time to share these recordings and stories with the fans. Don't think I've ever heard that Sifting demo before, sounds pretty early. And kind of weird hearing Kurt use a wah pedal, doesn't seem like he went for them much.

wow, I'm from Brazil, and I never expected to hear Bleach's songs without lyrics, just onomatopoeia. That time must have been the time when Kurt was composing new songs for Bleacj, including Senhor Mustache, is that right? because the riff is the same one used on the album, but the lyrics are not
