A prominent figure of the Head Hunters motorcycle club, has passed away after battling years of poor health. William Hines, also known as "Bird," held a senior position within the Head Hunters motorcycle club and was highly esteemed in New Zealand's Head Hunter community. In 2017 he was sentenced to more than 18 years prison for manufacturing and supplying methamphetamine and firearms offences, which was later appealed and reduced to 17 years.
However, while serving a 17-year prison sentence he was granted parole on compassionate grounds late last year.
Hines faced the challenges of type 2 diabetes, enduring limb amputation, heart disease, and end-stage renal failure. Regular dialysis sessions every other day became a part of his routine.
Following his passing, condolences poured in on social media from family and friends, honoring him as the OG or the Original Gangster.

REST IN JOY "PRES" Yep we both grew up in the two most known streets in the whole of the East.. MAD AVE(Madelinw av) and ESPERENCE RD(The toughest of the both.. You were Pres of our beloved and never forgotten "GLEN INNES FELCONS" bak in the early "80" and our still going strong Mt Wellinton Warriors' yep I remember just like it was yesterday... I was just in my first year the under "6yrs midgets GI Felcons, and after every one of our games on Sat We always had a player of the day and a runner up in every single grade back then.. and I'll never forget when I got the player of the dat at just 6yrs old in the Crossfield Park changing rooms you called me up and man my eyes lit up like the sun from the bright as orange $50 note you handed me and 20 for the runner up.... and as promised every Sat for player and runner up you would take us for a little cruise around The East for bout half n hour and buy us fish n chips even in either your Limosine or your Pontiac... wed put our heads out the windows and just wave to all the locals and they all new that it was the under 6 GI midgets players of the day 😅 Bak then the 88s were only a few and it wasn't an MC just a gang.. Thanks BB for always spoiling us and the other midgets and minor teams and for always putting all your underage teams before the boys and your Rep... fuk those were the days man....I'll Always cherish my early childhood memories of our beloved "EAST" and all the rough and tough street and family life growing up in the small tight nit but humble streets of MAD ave & Esperence' Everytime I see the HeadHunter patch these days in my old age all I'm reminded of is the love and respect you and the few 88s bak then showed for all of us and our families in the mighty East' There were Good,Bad and very ugly days bak then but every day of brawls scraps one outs and killings that happened all the time in our HOOD was always done the OLSKOOL WAY face to face and straight up talk and finalise and both parties agreeing to whatever the outcome then toe to toe sort it out. and no matter what ..... After its done for then..... both parties carry on bak to life in the hood with no grudges against each other and still remain friends after.... We were all like one big Family bak then and always had eachothwrs baks at the end of the day on our streets NO MATTER WHAT!! Rest easy BB and thanks again for all the real and unforgettable memories that we all will keep in our hearts 4eva 🤟 Condolences to all of your blood family BB till we meet again....
