This summer flew by for those of us watching you and the other hikers! Thanks for filming and to the Editor for her hard work. It's been better than anything on Netflix and fun to pause and go google places, gear and plants and stuff. The SoCal portion of the PCT is in my back yard. I've spent a year at my family's cabin in Big Bear and for the first time I realized what all those people walking around town with backpacks were up to. I've always been aware of the trail but didn't think I could do it. Now, I'm determined to thru hike but maybe start with the AT first because all the places there would be new to me. I'm reading books and bookmarking gear recommendations. Probably a lot of your followers have been doing the same! You've inspired a lot of us to either try something new or to go back to the stuff we loved when we were younger. I used to hike and climb but age and a body that can't be seen in a sports bra has made me self-conscious and low on confidence. I had it in my mind that if you aren't a size 6 and don't have all the cool Patagonia stuff you can't get out there. But you really can, right? We all can. P.S. Kate Cloud (Feathers) has some incredible mushrooms in her last Vlog.

The fact that we all get to sit on our asses and watch him work off his.. is awe inspiring! I believe people see the news about hikers who disappear but it's human nature to think "it will not happen to me". I used to hike alone and took one potentially dangerous spill. Scared the heck out of me . I was being careful and was almost in sight of the parking lot. I tripped on an exposed root and down toward a wooded ravine I went. Trees and rhododendron stopped me. It didn't frighten me until I realized what could have happened. Having someone with me would not have prevented the fall but had I needed help it might not have been available otherwise. Do not hike alone. A few years ago a lady hiking alone on the AT in the deep woods of Maine disappeared after going off trail to potty. Her hiking partner had just left to go back home. She was found 2 years later near her tent with her last words in a diary. Very sad.

The most beautiful part of the trail is the Sierras. Ironically many skipped this part of the trail.
@1houndgal5 жыл бұрын
Those who skipped the high sierra this year did so for safety concerns. The snowpack up there was at record levels this year, making hiking through that section dangerous to hike through. Safety trumps everything when in the wilderness.

I don't think you've changed inside. You're still sweet and caring. You kept your goal in sight even though you really wanted to go to that lake. You planned an alternative "just in case" cowboy camping while on the move, which shows your growth. It was charming when all the mountains looked like ice cream sundaes to you, but it's still charming when you look wistfully at a pristine mountain lake three times and can appreciate why it's special and stay on trail to catch little bee - especially after you totally missed her "I have a bike" *hint* when you brought up biking a Florida trail, smh, (on the live QA which I just watched) how could you just totally miss that??!

Agreed.
