I dunno how wholesome of a movie, Big Fish, is -- after all, it's a story about a psychotic, pathological liar with very little moral sense who continuously ditches his responsibilities. I never understood why people found it endearing. At least the author of Baron Munchausen punched it up a bit when it came to telling his tale, even though it's also entirely based on a debilitating, usually terminal, neurological abnormality. They didn't even punch up, Big Fish -- it's just psychosis after psychosis. I find that movie deeply disturbing.

This is probably my favorite growing up movie. Duval and Caine definitely carry this movie, but Haley Joel Osment gives another great performance to add to his career. This movie, more than Tombstone, makes me hope I go out "with my boots on!" Thanks for the reaction, brother!

I LOVE this movie...Good choice....The "what every boy " speech is PERFECT!!!!! “Sometimes the things that may or may not be true are the things a man needs to believe in the most. That people are basically good. That honor, courage and virtue mean everything ; that power and money … money and power mean nothing. That good always triumphs over evil. And I want you to remember this…. that love….true love never dies ! Remember that boy … remember that. Doesn’t matter if it is true or not, a man should believe in those things, because those are the things worth believing in…… got that ? ”

Oh man, if there was one movie I’d recommend everyone watch at least once in their lives it’d be this one. It’s easily one of the most underrated movies of all time, definitely doesn’t get the respect it deserves This movie does at least 3 things surprisingly well together that very few movies successful pull off 1) it’ll make ya laugh, 2) it’ll make ya cry, 3) it’ll teach and inspire you The fight scene in the restaurant with the punks is easily one of my favorite scenes because of just how funny and inspiring it is

I have always loved the ending of this movie. Its like Walter always believed in his Uncles stories but the end confirms how amazing and humble they really were.
@iesika7387
@iesika7387 Жыл бұрын
There are some cut scenes showing his doubt as a kid about whether the stories were real, and conflicting evidence about whether they might be criminals, and I wish they'd been left in. Walter's been lied to his whole life and never had any reason to trust adults, and his choice to trust and believe his uncles hits harder if he's had more (visibly obvious) reason to doubt. Don't get me wrong, I love the movie, just would have enjoyed that build-up

I've known since I was a child myself that I didn't want kids - but even I look at kids with parents like this and my heart just hurts with the wish/need to take them in and mother them so hard they forget all about the people they came from - even though I know that's not how it works. My sister was kind enough to introduce me to this movie, and although it looked like nothing I'd enjoy it's become one of my favorites. All three of the male leads are just so loveable and likeable. And I really enjoyed the acting of the competing family members, parents and kids. 😂

Thanks for the reaction! This movie goes on the list of good kids movies adults can actually watch. I love how Caine is telling a sanitized story to the boy that's very "kids movie" while the real story gently addresses that Duvall's character is thinking about suicide. The "you need to be here to give me the rest of the speech" bit is actually pretty powerful. Love your videos!

This movie is a lot like another great Michael Caine team up movie...The Man Who Would Be King, with Caine paired up with the incomparable Sean Connery. I definitely recommend that movie for a reaction too. ✌💯😁

There is an alternative ending to this film, the old shiekh turns up with his grandson and in a wheelchair, also the French Foreign Legion cavalry turn up with the horses with the boots in the stirrups backwards, also the four young teenagers are there for the funeral, showing that they really did live their lives as they had said so. Brilliant film and one that should be in the top 20 to watch.

I was surprised but so excited to see you were watching this movie. I’ve always loved it and suggest it to ppl pretty often. My dad came across it when it first came out and made my brother and I watch it and we were hooked! But funny thing about my dad and how much he likes this movie is he is a band teacher for high schoolers. He has one class that isn’t a “band class” instead it’s music appreciation and it’s mainly a class full of slackers that are forced to be at school. My dad has a variety of movies to keep them busy during class and this is among the list he plays every semester with the new group of students. The kids are always very grumpy about this movie when he first introduces it but he said it’s so great how almost immediately the room goes quiet and all the kids are invested, they will cheer and laugh as a group. They even end up saying it’s one of their favorites and they have to make their families watch it. I just feel like it’s a fun movie and very under rated and it flies under the radar. It’s the perfect movie if you just want a not serious but fun movie to put you in a good mood.

This is a classic American Tall Tale. Its a storytelling method that's been around since the days of John Henry and Paul Bunyan, but has become increasingly rare with time. Every now and then a movie will pop up that uses the same method of story telling, and I can't remember any of them being bad. It usually revolves around a character going on a journey, meeting several interesting and wild strangers that help him along the way, and ends up sounding too wild and crazy to be real but usually ends up proving true by the end of the film or ends with the main character making some kind of profound discovery about himself. Secondhand lions, Forest Gump, The Cherokee Kid, Big Fish, and even Joe Dirt all fall under genre, and they're all entertaining to watch.
