It may help to add clarification to the video title or info that explains that this is not a beginner's tutorial for mesh use. I am having a terrible time trying to find tutorials on how to use mesh from the beginning. I keep finding guides that explain advanced use of things, not the bare minimum beginning. None of the terms or components in this video made any sense to me.

Thank you. This was a well explained tutorial on BoM. There is the concern that BoM will see avatars looking ugly once again, some wearing very old layers to demonstrate their point but as you said, look for updated layers. I personally feel that BoM is best used as a mix of old and new. And I am happy to be able to wear some of my old cute outfits like my bee. The number of layers permitted is confusing though as the number said is either over 60 or 30. I think it may have been a SLink tutorial which said the redux body can wear up to 32 layers.

Thank you, I'm glad you found it helpful. I believe total number of layers allowed for BOM is 62, however I am sure it will differ with each body part, depending on how the creator makes them. Luckily, even 32 layers are more than enough for all the fun tattoos!

Unfortunately, you can't combine system layers BoM with regular skin appliers. For example, I wish there was a way to wear tattoo layer makeup over my mesh head applier skin. Maybe that will happen. I have so many skin appliers that I want to continue to use instead of old skin layers. They don't fit well with features, hands/feet. But it was fun to try them out again. In addition, I purged most of my system clothes. A majority of them had prim attachments like skirts, which I would not wear again. If this keeps evolving, I'm curious to see future changes. Thank you Strawberry for the video :)

It is true that all Bakes are done over the system skin. However, if you do have a quality, high resolution system skin to work with, you can still use Omega appliers for tattoos, effects, clothing, makeup and more, over BOM. Catwa, for example, uses a simple 'applier' to set their heads to BOM, but all the layers over the skin itself can still take Catwa and Omega appliers. In fact, any rigged mesh that has Omega installed can be set to BOM using a free applier available in the marketplace (look up 'Apricot Paws Bakes'). It will only affect the skin layer, and you can then add Omega tattoo and clothing over the BOM skin. But don't worry, going back to applier skin is just a click away, since you can just use your favorite skin and BOM is removed.

(Ria C might already know this, but for people coming to this video now with no prior knowledge of BoM) Body/head brands that made a version of their product specifically with BoM in mind, typically do give a way to let you wear appliers still. E.g. the latest Maitreya body can be both fully BoM and fully (or partially ) applier based, depending which parts of it you wear. That said... (to clear confusion for newcomers, or to add more confusion!) the one thing you can not do, is the opposite of what Ria C mentioned in this comment, that is: wear BoM/system tattoos, clothing, make-up, etc on a non-BoM body part.

I like to add two more bits of information. One the Firestorm viewer now supports Bakes on Mesh. :D Two you can go into "Edit Outfit" and change the order of system clothes you are wearing. So say your bra was on a "System Universal" and you wore it after you put on your shirt with was also a "System Universal". Your bra would be on top of your shirt. You can simply change the layer order by going into "Edit Outfit" and moving the bra down or the shirt up. Of course you can only change the order of items in the same category. So if the bra was a system Tattoo and the shirt was a system Universal you couldn't change their layer order.

I’ve tried after demo after demo on the heads and they all look the same, they don’t look like the pictures, makes it hard for me to trust to buy a mesh head, I tried the body shapes in the demo folder, but each one look the same not like in the pictures

can you wear any system clothing as BoM? Or do they need to come with their own applier? I was trying to get some jeans on and had no luck, and also tried some that had an omega applier, and still no luck. It just said Attempting to apply ( whatever it was) I don't know what i am doing wrong, or even if I will be able to wear my old fave jeans on my Lara 5.1 mesh body.

i have an AK Leon BoM activated head and i cant find skin for it properly. i am using a classic free mesh body by the makers of legacy. so will any stray dog or BoM skin match my body and head? or should i simply look for compatible head and the body will fit...?

Is it possible to make the layers transparent or do you do this in the hud of the mesh bodys/heads just like we are doing now? What if you want to only have the eyeshadow transparent but the lipstick on 100%?

I need help; I bought a Genus shape on SL but don't know how to wear it, I have gotten the Genus head/baby face and maitreya body already, but I just can't apply this face/ shape that I got. Can someone walk me through this?

So as long as you are wearing a BoM alpha for your mesh body, you can instantly wear any skin/layer system clothing?

When you wear any mesh body that is already BOM ready, like the SLink body I was wearing, you don't need to wear an alpha at all. As soon as you wear it, it will apply whichever skin texture you are currently wearing. If you try to wear an alpha while wearing the BOM body, it will probably make it look invisible. The only alpha I was wearing was the BOM alpha that came with the Lelutka head so it works with the mesh eyes that come with the Lelutka head. If I didn't wear those eyes, then I wouldn't have to wear any alpha at all.

I think a demonstration of system alpha masks with Bakes On Mesh enabled bodies would be very helpful for people, especially since most are used to the alpha HUDs that come with mesh. I know that a lot of newer mesh clothing lacks alpha masks, but creative people will be there to fill the need.

Not all creators may be planning to update their applier skins with a BoM layer, and I wouldn’t expect a whole store of BoM skins anytime soon. I suggest you ask your favorite creators to make BoM instead.
