Four years after baby Tegan vanished, in 2000 Manly police begin their investigation. But the police have lost crucial time, and Caro discovers how the investigation was marred from the start. By 2004, after a series of excruciating police interviews in which Keli Lane answered questions without any legal representation, her secret world of hidden pregnancies is about to be publicly exposed with a referral to the NSW Coroner’s Court for an Inquest, bringing her life crashing down. Police efforts are focused on finding the child and the father Keli nominated, a man called Andrew Norris or Morris, with whom Keli says she had a brief affair with in the summer of 1995, which ended in an arranged secret adoption. But when one of the biggest searches in Australian history fails to find any trace of Andrew Norris/Morris or Tegan, the police’s Missing Persons Inquiry becomes a full blown murder investigation. A mysterious figure makes contact with Caro, offering new information. After forensically examining thousands of documents and scores of witnesses, Caro and Elise re-examine the police investigation. With breakthrough interviews Caro uncovers witnesses who shed new light on Keli’s movements. Caro unearths an expert who reveals stunning new details about Andrew Norris/Morris, casting further doubt on the soundness of the police investigation.

All the young athletes I ever met in high school / college had the exact same type of parents - pushy, image-conscious, very dry and emotionless (unless the kid did poorly, then they'd either get angry or even colder and more distant). And all the young athletes engaged in high-risk behaviour and hid literally their entire lives from their parents. Bizarre.

It's quite sad how many teenagers truly believe their parents will disown them for being pregnant. The truth is that 99% of the time, the parents will support their child. I wish there was mandatory counseling required before the teenager makes any decision.

What baffles me is the boyfriend she had at the time of the pregnancy. He claimed she wouldn't allow him to touch her tummy in bed. The whole situation is bizarre. She says the father of Tegan was an Andrew Norris/Morris, who she had had a brief affair with. So how quickly did she get together with her new boyfriend (the one who she went to the wedding with?) What lie did she tell him, when she was in hospital having the baby, and why did they not go to the wedding together? She left the hospital with Tegan, and handed the baby over to this Andrew - a man who said he would raise the baby, but who had no connection to her at all because they only dated briefly, and then drove for hours to meet her boyfriend and attend that wedding! Really? It doesn't add up. The scenario she tells is so far fetched. Seriously what man would take a newborn baby and agree to never contact her ever again? If he really existed, he would have come forward years ago to save her from going to prison.

I live in the US and not Australia so my experience may be different, but I had a baby just a few years after this missing baby was born. There are birth records that name myself and my sons father. Over the years for school and sports and even just recently for him to replace his drivers license ive needed to have his birth certificate. There are records of him being enrolled in school, getting vaccinations, even when we traveled together. If this baby was alive and living happily with Andrew Morris/Norris there would be a paper trail. Even if they moved out of the county, the baby would need a passport, maybe a Visa.

Every time Keli gets emotional it's about her, how people will find out and judge her. How this is going to mess up her life. Never any worry about a missing baby. I've known mothers who have given a baby up for adoption and even though they couldnt or didnt want to be a parent, they still though about their baby, wished to know about their lives. It seems to me Keli isnt curious or concerned at all and maybe thats because she knows exactly ahere that baby is. Keeping her secret is motive for sure. Maby the wedding and Keeping up appearances for that meant she didn't have time to spend on the adoption process. Maybe she was just less prepared. Either way it's very suspect.

Right. Bc a 2 day old baby decides to go start a life over somewhere else? People never understand the term beyond a reasonable doubt. No one can ever be 100% certain unless they're the murderer. It's it possible an alien abducted this baby? I guess. Is that doubt reasonable? Of course not. Neither is the doubt that she may have given this 2 day old baby to someone who she can't remember the last name of. That absolutely doesn't come close to the bar of reasonable doubt. But people will still continue to think reasonable doubt means 100% certainty, which is just wrong. But hey, none of this would have happened if we just sterilize these people who keep having abortions. Birth control is free. Use it. Or be given permanent birth control.

If she was innocent, there would not have been that 3 minute silence she gave during one of the police interviews when they asked if she would tell them what happened to Teagan and she then replied, “no”. She either sold that baby, which I think she eventually would have admitted after realizing jail was a real possibility, or she murdered her. In reference to the guy at the apartment building saying he saw Keli all the time, I’m almost positive he’s gotten her confused with another woman because even Keli basically portrayed this man as a one night stand. She wouldn’t have been there all those times. He’s probably seen her face from all the TV coverage and thinks he recognizes her. I think she’s guilty as sin!

Additionally, why has the father never been found or him come forward or had a lawyer act on his behalf to protect him legally regarding his full custody of Tegan, especially given the circumstances

I'm having such a hard time believing she killed that baby. Perhaps she did, or maybe something else happened. The story she wants us to believe makes little to no sense, although I do see how after having such a hard time going through the formal adoption process the first time, she may have wanted to give the next baby up without going through all those formalities. Why wouldn't the people who got the baby come forward though? The only reason I can think of, if this is what happened, is that the girl was being abused, and by coming forward, the people who had her would have exposed themselves. What an awful story altogether 😔

Im just hoping to give a diff perspective ab her successfully concealing pregnancy, having the baby, and nobody knowing. Im not saying her parents didn't know, don't get me wrong. When I was 17 I got pregnant by a guy my mother hated & threatened to have arrested bc he was 21. Truth be told it wasn't his age it was his race. I just couldn't bring myself to tell her & I tried so many times. The father made promises he didn't keep if Id just keep baby. At the time my mom was spending a good bit of time at her boyfriend's but def home enough that we interacted regularly. She never knew, I know her well enough to know she would've at least questioned me if she even suspected it. I wasn't a big girl, I just wore baggier shirts & didn't button my jeans. A week after my 18th birthday I went into labor at home. Mom was gone but sister was home so I spent the day & most of night in my room, by myself, in pain, scared to death & so confused until the father finally made his way over. He said he thought I was lying ab contractions to get him to come over. Then he dropped my @$$ off at the door of ER & left. I decided right then & there I couldn't give the baby the life it deserved & called the agency I had talked to a few times trying to explore my options. I went home 2 days later & acted like nothing ever happened. Obviously there was signing documents at a lawyers office & all the legalities, my heart was absolutely broken, I felt so alone & abandoned by the father & my mother bc how did she not know but I carried on. She still doesn't know to this very day.

@@brucejohnston3521 Not exactly. Kathy Folbigg had the same prosecutor as Keli. The prosecutor won every jury trial he did in over 30 years of prosecuting, unless there’s one or two cases I haven’t located. The prosecutor wrote a true crime book “Kidnapped” about the Thorne kidnapping, and rather curiously included two footnotes about the Keli Lane trial. Keli’s prosecutor wrote in footnote 5 to Chapter 8 of his book Kidnapped: "In the case of the disappearance of baby Tegan Lane, the investigation only began in earnest more than seven years after her disappearance in 1996. the searches for her were seriously flawed in that the police sent questionnaires to every primary school throughout Australia asking for information about any girl called Tegan or Lane whose birth had been registered on the day of Tegan's birth, or on the two days on either side of it. This failed to take into account that a person who may have informally adopted her - as her mother Keli claimed - could have changed Tegan's name or registered her birth as having occurred on another day. At the trial, the Crown admitted that the searches could never definitively prove that Tegan was dead. They merely showed the extent to which the police had gone in their attempt to find her." and footnote 4 to Chapter 7 includes: "A number of even more extensive searches - this time for a missing child, and subject to serious flaws - were conducted by police investigating the disappearance of baby Tegan Lane who vanished days after her birth in 1996."

@@Roxana067 I am not saying her manner of birth control or there the lack of is a good one. It happens , a lot especially with young girls that have strict parents or have secret lives. It is their decision, I just feel that professional law enforcement agencies should not have tunnel vision. If there are critical things missed in an investigation due to opinions and not facts, its a scary thing.

John Borovnik seems to take a perverse pleasure in pursuing Keli. She clearly has psychological issues as her repeated pregnancies is not normal behaviour, but she needs psychiatric help not the strong arm of the law. I am not clear what motivated him to be so clearly delighted that he found her out.

Keli is in Distress ..she clearly lives 2 separate lives...how no one said anything with Baby #1? Coaches? Teachers? Teammates? I use to swim competitively and everyone would have known she was pregnant? How on earth did she play water polo? Its an aggressive, powerful × physical game...pushing, kicking, scratching × very stressful...then she went drinking × partying after practices × games??? Again, how did no one say anything? Be responsible × use protection × birth control? Why did she terminate 2 of these babies × decide to have the other 3..2 of which she puts up for adoption? She ckearly is Psychopath, Narcissist, Manipulator, Lied..Lied..Lied..over 90 times? Compulsive Liar? She clearly is in jail for a reason... This poor baby? She clearly needed assistance, help, therapy? Reach out there are services to help young mothers... Its clearly so Heartbreaking ...

I totally agree, with all the above. Boils my blood, how could she keep breeding, like there is no tomorrow? Giving kids to adoption, like used clothes? I am hundred percent sure, that she killed this baby. Why? Because she is a psychopath, and she could. The fact that she is still delusional, and keeps lying is just beyond me.

I fostered three children and the mother never visited nor called. She eventually lost all Parental rights. She has gone on to have five more children since then, of which the first 4 of those children were taken by CPS at birth in the hospital and then, low and behold, let her keep the last one. I am uncertain if she still has the child in her care as I finally tuned out to the entire situation with her. It broke my heart honestly. We should have some type of safeguard to keep people from literally breeding babies for the system and taxpayers baring the financial responsibility and the resources and work to do everything that is needed. It is incredulous

The composite drawing of Norris at 58:33 looks just like the young man standing with his arm around Keli's neck in the family photo at 11:33. I think she sold the baby on the black market and doesn't want to be caught, nor have to deal with turning in or helping locate potential people in child trafficing. And her fear of disappointing her parents? Well having sold your baby on the black market would truly be a fate worse than death.

Tough one to call. My main problem is that people seem to think she's guilty because "Andrew would have come forward with all the publicity". Assuming she is telling the truth for a second here, what if he emigrated and doesn't know? What if he gave her a fake name? What if he is terrified the child would be taken from him? What if he sold her or did something awful to her himself? That, to me, is reasonable doubt. They can't prove anything one way or another and that would trouble me as a juror to brand someone a baby killer without tracing the father or a body. The fact that police hadn't tracked down that witness who saw her at the apartment building is also troubling. Their main argument was she was a pathological liar and he would seem to contradict that. Maybe I'll eat my words in part 3 but so far theres a lot of this that just doesnt make sense. Why would she not do the same thing and go through the adoption again? Too many questions with no real answers.
