This is the Scooby through rig. Been around for years. Does work fantastic. Catches fish for sure!

This technique looks deadly on stick baits, flukes and boot tails. To create a hunting action, sometimes I use a split ring to attach a cylinder weight to the eye of the hook. Then I tie directly to the split ring, looking like a Tokyo rig but without the extension. this looks like a better alternative considering how it stays level. Also, adding a swimming action on the retrieve to a stick bait while being able to get the whacky hook waiver sounds ideal, especially with a split ring. Can't wait to try it!

Former Elite Series angler & famous lure maker Lee Sisson pioneered this rig. He had a special weight just for this technique. He used with great success on a Fluke style bait in his tournament days.

Mike the bobber stops are not necessary. I due use a bait button to keep the sinker in place. Keep the eye of the hook inside the bait. This will act as a bumper if you get caught in brush. This rig is really a shore fisherman delight. You can cast it into anything and it will come through without snagging. I have never had the sinker move forward. Rather it stays in the center, allowing bait to sink in a horizontal manor.

Hi Mike! I have no clue what the rig I’m using is called, but it is absolutely killer. I use an M1 Mojo weight in the place of your dropshot weight. The tip of the Mojo weight get slightly pinched to allow the drill bit to take and not slide off the weight. The drill bit size should allow the barb of the hook to pass through the hook. I use a fluke style bait with this and it works well either as jerk bait or even dead sticking. Thank you for your valuable info that you share!

I’ve never fished that rig before. I’ve had success with high float soft plastics on a swing head jig and the free rig.

At first I was favoring the egg shaped weight but now I think the cylinder weight might be more effective dragging in the mud or bottom and keeping the bait above the bottom that little bit more than the egg shaped weight. 🤔

The only issue here is after every time you need to change your soft plastic the bobber stops have to be removed . So lots of bobber stops needed and time lost in between changing soft plastics and swapping out bobber stops , hmmm will have to think on this some more . Thanks Ike

How do you replace the bait?
@jimhuibregtse
@jimhuibregtse Жыл бұрын
A pain to change plastics or color, or replacing a bait. Also, I’d guess the bass has significant leverage when hooked.
@christopherascherl2411
@christopherascherl2411 Жыл бұрын
Why do you think they would have more leverage than other rigging methods? Odds are the weight will be in the fish's mouth but even if it isn't it will be farther back than most other rigging methods.
@huibspht
@huibspht Жыл бұрын
@@christopherascherl2411 Hey! Just that the weight is connected directly to the hook, as opposed to a texas rig, drop shot, carolina rig or others. Even a keel weighted hook has the lead attached directly to the shank, as opposed to this technique that has the weight swinging away from the shank, offering the fish additional leverage to throw the hook. Think of the difference between a shot put and hammer throw in track and field. The hammer throw has way more leverage as the weight is on the end of a pendulum. But hey, I'll give this a try and see! Good Luck!
@christopherascherl2411
@christopherascherl2411 Жыл бұрын
@@huibspht Your analogy is why I think the fish is going to have less leverage than a jig or texas rig. If the weight ends up in the mouth, it would be like trying to throw it by grabbing ahold of the wire near the weight and swinging with the handle swinging on the outside. If the weight end up outside the mouth, it is still going to be closer to the pivot point than a jig or texas rig so it will be like using a shorter wire. Dropshot and keel weighted hook will be as good or better depending where the weight ends up and not certain about a Carolina rig.
