Of all industrialist kids in India - Rajiv Bajaj is the best. Inspite of his privileged upbringing and family reputation, it is amazing that his Engineering education was done in India - implies he is smart and not someone dumb who made it to Ivy League schools with Dad's money. Second, the way he deferred from his outspoken Dad and brought in a culture of innovation and quality made Bajaj Auto still standing. Else Bajaj Auto would have been out of the door like Hindustan Motors and Premier Auto. I don't see any next-generation Industrialist kids that can stand up to Rajiv Bajaj inspite of their fancy foreign degrees from abroad with their inherited money.

I really liked the way he differentiated Engineering with a MBA. For a "truly" Engineering company like Bajaj Auto - MBA will not cut. Many "truly" high tech companies like Intel, AMD, AMD were run into the ground by MBAs from Ivy league schools and has to be turned around Engineers. MBA is fit to run potato chips companies where Marketing/Financial Engineering can help. For "truly" Engineering/Tech company the product has to be the best for company to succeed and a simple MBA cannot do it. Elon Musk once said, the problems with most tech companies are - they are run mostly by MBAs.

It is so easy to have impressions of people without knowing anything about them. His story is extremely interesting and humble. However, what is so secret about something which he has narrated in his own voice to a publication. That is what is seriously wrong with Journalism and Marketing. Sensationalize everything. Nothing against Mr. Bajaj himself, I think, his story is beautiful, and he has told it beautifully.

Excellent.. But Hero Honda Sold more than Bajaj not becuz of heard mentality..It sold becuz Hero Honda had excellent quality. With Honda engineering.. Bajaj did not had it before partnering with Kawasaki. Quality does matter. heard mentality comes from good quality only
