If you look closely, the spike is actually in the Teddy bear, and she stabs the Teddy bear, not you, so it probably is some kind of voodoo thing

Actually, Laura doesn't stab you, she stabs the bear with the spike, which kills you. The bear is kind of like a voodoo doll which causes the player to feel pain when the bear gets stabbed. Also, I don't think the teddy bear is possessing her, but instead she is possessing the bear.
