I have a feeling the JM show want that. There's a reason the cases always start off with a dramatic introduction before getting to the case which has nothing to with prostituting, smoking crack, dealing drugs, cheating etc. Plus, JM even says "we'll get to the case in a minute, respond to what they said about ____". It's definitely encouraged for drama, but I agree it was uncalled for.
