My husband and I just found a female map turtle trapped under a fence between the Delaware River and the Delaware Canal on the Pennsylvania side. We freed her from the fence and helped her continue her journey to the canal. By the looks of this video, even though we're in PA, I'm guessing we were right across the river from where this was filmed. The Delaware Canal in PA has thousands--literally thousands of these turtles--lounging on logs, swimming, foraging on the muddy bottom. I had a hard time figuring out what all of these map turtles were doing there...most of what I read didn't point to this being their habitat. But they are there (along with painted turtles and red-eared sliders) and they are all over the place! Thanks for this video.

I love Chrysemys picta! They are amazing survivors. They can go 100% anoxic for months during hibernation! They also are quite friendly turtles in captivity.

i had a map turtle for 15 years! i never knew what it was for sure til now! i was camping in jersey when i was very young and saw broken egg shells around the edge of the lake and i dove on the last remaining turtle before it hit the water and my mom let me keep it lol. it ended up being a little bigger than that female... so many aquarium upgrades

Sometimes when i was a little boy i had night dreams about myself swimming in a swamp full of turtles. I was catching them a lot and full my pockets. But being woken up and come back to reality they were dissapearing. I`m a little bit envy you))

It cost nothing turtle from Lakeland near it was a baby but it was pretty awesome my dad thought it was a crawl dad really actually look like one because how small it was but when it came up above water it actually was a snapping turtle not a common though it's just a regular snapping turtle

I love turtles. I've had turtles my whole life. I recently got my children a false map (spike). They don't understand that our turtle will be around for quite awhile. I think they've already lost interest in him. Luckily I haven't.
