I have inlaws who moved to London and furnished most of their house by taking things off the curb. People would dump perfectly good tables, chairs, dressers, you name it. Once, when I was visiting, they saw a big couch more than ten blocks away from their place and wanted me to help them carry it there on foot! In the middle of the night! I declined. They went back there later and mounted the couch on a bike. Crazy.
