There have been a lot of questions about the power strip's rating. The company's website states it is rated to 250v. Just wanted to add that information. Thanks for using our link! John & Bev

I have been researching the power strip you reference and am confused. Having smoked a 120vac power bar in Germany a few years ago I am being extra cautious. The built-in surge protection did not like 220vac. You mention the companies website states 250v but the amazon link on your website shows 125v. What is the power rating on the actual power strip you travel with and what is the model#? Thank you.
@RetirementTravelers Жыл бұрын
@@michaelosborne1750 You are correct that the specs on the website and Amazon are different. We have used it several months with no issues at all in many different countries. You should contact the company directly if you still have concerns. John and Bev

@@RetirementTravelers Thank you for the info and I have contacted the company. They say it should work and the '~' in the "125V~" rating means includes 240v. What does the Rating say on your strip?

I am one more that is asking the same question. When we were still home in Canada I ordered this power bar and have used it in Italy. We are in a different country now and my husband is very concerned bc it says 125v on the actual item. He's got me worried so I thought I'd ask you (you're incredibly responsive). Glad I revisited this video bc now I have seen other people adding this. Thanks for fielding questions and giving so much time to your 'peeps'! 😃 I'm going to show him your answers. Dry bags are also great to do your laundry in; I also bring Eucalan laundry soap (because I have a lot of merino wool items) which requires no rinsing. Stuff the dirty laundry in the bag, fill with water in the shower or bath, put in some Eucalan and seal. Roll it around on the shower floor a bit, then leave to soak 15 minutes. Open the bag and carefully press most of the water out with your foot, then squeeze the remaining water out of each item, spread them out on a bath towel and roll them up for 10 minutes. Unroll and hang items to dry

Yes, we separate the backpacks for a personal item. Oftentimes we carry the daypacks in our hands. They can also attach to the front of our packs. As a fellow full-time int'l traveler for many years, I agree with all your 9 points. Well done. One additional point that works well for me: in addition to the bluetooth earphones, I ALWAYS carry a back-up cheap wired earphone set, as I've been caught out a few times when my bluetooth earphones doesn't want to cooperate. Thanks again for the great vid.

Thanks so much for getting down to the details. That’s so helpful! I wonder if it would be possible to do a video on how you save space on just your toiletries, since not being able to “go back home” to refill small containers from large ones isn’t an option. I realize that we all have different preferences/needs in that area, but different creams, liquids, etc. can be substituted for different people’s needs, while still implementing your space & weight-saving ideas. You did mention once that you use toothpaste tablets or have shared the same tube of toothpaste as you travel. That’s the type of tip I’m talking about. I’m not asking that you share anything too personal, but maybe generalize about some contents while being specific about containers. Of course, nowadays, we’re all limited by sizes of containers and liquids, but y’all have your own added limitations of what you want to haul around. 😊 I love how you “get to the point” in your videos and do such an excellent job of giving us helpful information. I also appreciate the fact that you included the change to the Osprey Fairview 55 for Bev and why you did that. We’re in the process of deciding and ordering our Osprey backpacks for our travel needs. Blessings on you both as you travel the world! We’ll be enjoying your adventures as you go. Remember, no detail is irrelevant; it will always help someone in some way. 🤗

Hi Guys! We are 65 and 54, and preparing to set out as open-ended travelers. I have a question that may seem trivial, but I need to ask you, the pro's! We are pretty good at minimal packing, my husband even better than me, of course. But it's the toiletries that are getting me! He is fine to use one bar (or squirt) of soap from head to toe, and be done. So, I have a question more likely for Bev... Do you mind sharing what you carry in the toiletries department? After being on the road for so long, do you feel like you have gotten rid of many things you previously used daily? I swear, I pare down to almost nothing, but then my toiletries bag stares at me like a daunting ball and chain! I second guess myself, do I REALLY need night time face lotion AND daytime face lotion? Will I REALLY be using hair products (I have short hair)? Do you use one type of soap for face, hair, body? Any makeup at all? Thank you so much!
@RetirementTravelers Жыл бұрын
This question has always been difficult for me. Since most every accommodation these days has shampoo and soap, we don't carry any to save on weight (John carries a solid shaving bar). Lotion and conditioner isn't always guaranteed, though. I cut my hair shorter so conditioning wouldn't be such an issue. I have incredibly thin hair and used to use all kinds of thickening cream and such, but I don't pack any now to save on space. Maintaining highlights in my hair is a hassle while traveling, so I'm even letting my hair grow out so it will be healthier and need less attention and products. At present, I carry contact solution, but I'm thinking of ditching it and just wear my glasses all the time. It's getting cooler/dryer with the seasons and my skin is suffering by not having a good lotion, (I have small tubes and use the hotel's for the most part), but I thinking about switching contact solution for lotion. As far as makeup, I could probably use more since we are on camera but I just bring eyeshadow and mascara. It's all such a calculated decision, and since John carries our liquids, I hate to add more weight to his pack. If we were traveling slower like many who stay a month at a time in one place, this wouldn't be an issue, I'd bring more, but we are truly active travelers and we love being ABLE to carry our packs with ease. This is so important to us that it's helped us ditch what we don't really NEED. Hope this helps you make decisions. We over packed to start with and as you can tell, we still try to shuffle around. It's hard, I know. Let us know how you do and have a great journey! Bev ❤️

This is what I suspected- carrying less overrides all! I will tell you a funny story: During my 20 backpacking days, I lived on Santorini for a summer, and all of us working travelers only had what we carried in our backpacks. I wrote a postcard (no such thing as internet or cell phones back then) to my friend in CA that I wish I'd had more clothes, since I had been wearing the same pair of jeans and 2 tops to my nightclub job every single night... She surprised me by sending me an enormous TRUNK of all my "nightclub" clothes! They were all non-travel-appropriate mini skirts and and low cut tank tops (I was from California) etc. Well, ALL of my fellow traveling workers got wind of "the trunk" and showed up at my door. A huge party ensued, and half the island, GUYS AND GALS were ALL wearing my trunk of nightclub'y clothes all over "town" that night. What a memory! (Completely useless for my continued travels, I have no idea what ever happened to all those clothes! But the pictures from the night are priceless!)
