In South Africa, we regularly have water outages. We have installed a rain tank for emergencies, and always keep at least one 5l bottle next to every toilet, as it's impossible to flush if you have no water for 2 - 5 days. Also, we have put plastic bowls in the sinks, so all washing up and rinsing water goes into the garden.
