I was in Iraq in 2003-2004 with the US army. Wasn't down in Basra, but I suspect you'll be in some places I was. It's always been a dream to travel there without the political.. imperial... pretenses. Living a little vicariously here.

I am an expat since we(family) went to Dar es Salaam when I was 5. I was born in England. I was in MN sailing the world for 20yrs. Came ashore and worked for 10yrs in ME. Retired to Thailand 23 yrs ago. So for about 72 yrs have off and on I have been an expat, my passport is British, I think I have same problem as you. I tell people where I was born, but tell them I don’t really belong anywhere, the longest is Thailand.

It was expensive because you went to Basra during the Gulf cup. GCC countries are mad about football. Couch surfing with male friends is very, no offence, taboo. I know you're a respectable and honorable woman, but in some Arab countries you need to couch surf with female friends. GCC countries are mutant countries. Very weird countries; sometimes disgusting, Iraq is far better.
