Best 6.4 Powerstroke fuel filter change video! Thanks for taking the time to make it.
@darrensteuber4994 Жыл бұрын
When I change the fuel filters, I do it with less than half a tank and park on an incline. I drain the lower filter housing 1st (without removing the filter), then change the upper filter. Next I change the lower filter. It's a lot less messy. A fine tooth, flex head ratchet is very convenient for changing the lower filter. You also want to drain the fuel/water separator (lower filter drain valve) a few times between filter changes to make sure there is no water. You only need to drain a little to see if there's any water. The high pressure injection pump makes up to 25,000 psi and a little bit of water will kill it 2008 F250 with 293,000 miles.

@raynyhus202626 күн бұрын
I used to be a ford master tech and the 6.4 is a good engine. The only problems that hurt are the emissions junk that really doesn't work, the dual thermostat, and the regeneration programming that made it a flame thrower. With you being California, there's not too much you can do about that other than a reprogram to fix the flame thrower and thermostat. Here in Wyoming, I've seen these get great fuel mileage after a delete. Over 20 mpg. With proper maintenance, they can go forever. The 6.0l can last problem free with proper oil change intervals, branch fitting on the hipo pump, and head studs.

One experience I had was making the mistake of changing fuel filters on a full tank of fuel. The lower filter started siphoning fuel from the tank, even with the cap on or removed. I tried breaking the siphon by slightly loosening the filter cap, but that didn't work and the o-ring stuck and came partially out of the groove. Only choice was to take a diesel bath and quickly get the filter changed to stop the siphon leak. Next time will change it on a much lower fuel level.

Every now and then i extend to 6 or 7k between changes if im to busy. But i never let it get beyond 7k between changes. I also put one quart of power punch in on every change.

OEM parts are vended from a different manufacturer. You can buy other branded filers that have the notch, hole and membrane over the filter element. I change my filers every 5k miles along with my oil. So, cost is important to me. Plus, a lot of times, OEM parts you pay for the name. Ford itself is not going to filter fuel, just saying. I just turned 222k using this system and deleted as well. I also use a fuel treatment at every fill up. Thanks for the video!

Yes. I feel this has happened to me. Let's put this into perspective. #1. It's January 2025 my for ever truck an 08 Ford F350 Superduty just blew a head gasket a 15K fix. Did I say my forever truck? Deleted DPF and Deleted E.G.R. With a CCV catch can mod. Been running great then poof I have a coolant leak that I can't seem to find but it's real nothing in the crank or oil in the coolant I'm down 355 mil. in 30 miles and know white smoke? Still, has pressure in the coolant system the next morning? A teardown + some mods like ARP studs and performance "O" ringed heads hardened seats maybe bronze guides etc... The bulletproof valve covers with oil sprayers possibly lower-end APR rod studs and nuts. And modified oil cooler. Possibly in line coolant filter. Money is an option. I don't want to but steel pistons may be needed. 136K original miles DPF and EGR delete at 120 miles. Never raced 4000-mile services. Stock or tow tune. I'm torn😢.bumed out thought I could beat the stats.😂😂😂

Is it safe to drain off the filter back into the engine? Seems like it would carry a bunch of particles past the filter housing.
@jhawk1776 Жыл бұрын
That’s an interesting point I believe all the fuel in that housing in forced back though the new filter before it leaves the housing. So I don’t think it really matters. Thanks for the comment though, always good to be thinking about things like that! Thanks for watching!
@hikerJohn Жыл бұрын
You loosen the filter before you drain the oil. The dirt on the filter stays on the filter, only the oil drains down into the pan to be removed and replaced with new oil. You are not back-flushing the filter.

@Backfire10 Жыл бұрын
Yea. Don't let the fuel drain back in housing. Remover quickly. Also, oil o ring before you put on cap.
@gregm44416 ай бұрын
I would say no, it is not safe at all. Anything on the filter, and all the fuel that was not filtered that's in the housing can now go into your fuel pump. Letting it drip only lets more trash fall in there. That housing needs to be drained 1st. Only basic logic tells you that.

ya interesting. When I bought my truck it had 400k kms on it but the DPF had been deleted in the beginning and the tune had kept the EGR valve closed its entire life. I removed the egr and cooler and replaced the up pipes, put a coolant filter in too. Honestly the fuel economy is another big thing to think about too. Im getting 10Liters/100KM which is 28MPG. My friend has same truck with no delete running stock and he gets about 15MPG. If you do delete it then get new up pipes at the same time and install a coolant filter.@silverback72745

@bthorn5035 Жыл бұрын
@silverback72745 The up pipe cracks with all delete kits because theres no support at the bottom. The pipe vibrates until it cracks and fails. You have to leave the horizontal cooler attached to the up pipe with the block off plate sandwiched in between. There's a strong pin on the engine side of the cooler that recesses into a hole in your cooler bracket attached to the frame. Since there is no wiggle room there, and the up pipe won't flex at all, that spacer plate won't fit in between them. If you put the plate in first, then the cooler pin won't fall into the hole and the front of the cooler will stick out just enough to prevent the cooler straps from being able to reconnect. Here's what I did: disconnect everything and rotate cooler 90 degrees. Take a Sawzall with a hard metal milwaukee blade and cut off elbow (behind dip stick) as flush as possible. Rotate cooler 90 more degrees. Retention pin on cooler should now be facing drivers side tire. The threaded bolt holes on rear of cooler are now flipped 180 degrees. Thread bolts through up pipe, block off plate, and rear of cooler, BUT DO NOT TIGHTEN! Reattach straps, get nuts started. Tighten rear bolts now. Then tighten straps. Done. Your cooler is rotated 180 degrees, strapped in place, and holds up pipe firmly in place.

All the years I had my 6.0, I never greased my o rings and they never got stuck. Takes more than a fuel filter change to keep a 6.0 or 6.4 running forever. Do your maintenance per the schedule and the truck will never strand you. If the 6.4 pump is same as 6.0 it's the hfcm. Drop the archoil and run amsoil. Better oil goes farther than additives.

Well there may be one or two the junk ford 6.4 out there that are still living but I have an 08 450 with the 6.4 in it that was blown with only 54k miles on it. Truck was bought new no mods done dealer did all maintenance on the truck on schedule down to the wiper blades. Only Ford techs ever touched this truck and it was done at the dealership. Ford wouldn’t help replace the motor because it was technically out of warranty by 30days when it got towed in to the dealership. Paid to have new motor installed at a tone of $22K with only a 1 year warranty. Two months after that the high pressure fuel pump went out. That was again “not under warranty”. Then the whole front end had to be replaced. Then the front drive shaft let go and took the transmission, transfer case, fuel pump/filter, 3 hard fuel lines, cross member and a few other odds and ends out. Now it’s been back in for the turbo back pressure switch. Again dealership maintained. So word of advice do not buy a Ford diesel after they quit with the 7.3l this truck now only has a total of 115k miles on it on the frame and I could of bought this truck like three times for what I have in repairs for this junk. Ford needs to do better. Yes I love my ford trucks but they need to prove to me they will last before I ever buy another truck. It’s hard to spend $90,000 plus on a truck you may have to spend another $40,000 on in 3 years once that warranty runs out to keep it running 🤷♂️
