That is a great tip. Almost no recreational player have all the muscles he talked about well stretched. When you keep your hand straight, we naturally get a more strait arm towards the ball. Can't tell you what a big difference it made. That was basically the last motion to get all my serves very powerful and consistent.

I liked a couple things about this video. I like this idea of implanting an idea or image of an advanced topic _before_ you're ready for it. You just let it sit in there and gestate, germinate and otherwise unconsciously develop. I've noticed my toss, which is terrible, will arch back over my head, which I need for good topspin as *I am only four feet tall!* ...in my wheelchair, that is. The second thing I like is the idea of reciprocal help, you're helping us by sharing valuable insights and information, and you ask that we help you with 'like's, comments and subscriptions. Fair enough. I have 'like'd, subscribed, commented and hit the notification bell. Hope anyone reading this will, too. Thanks Jeff, looking forward to your next vid - JD, Montreal

Jeff continues to give amazing free tips. This one is major. Sounds simple but its not and it is definitely something the pros almost all do...and if you don't believe it just watch a few videos of top players. Jeff ....I wish I had you as a serve coach when I was a kid....I would have won a lot more matches in the juniors., but I do love that you put out such quality tips for everyday players.

Your best serve tip video. I figured these steps on my own watching Fed videos month back. Turning hand to face outside on toss and connection of toss with rotation have solved my toss. Had a good serve, when toss was good, but was big ‘if’. The bad tosses destroyed my balance and timing. To expound, i noticed i had a turned palm naturally to face outside with off hand when guiding my overhead shot. Therefore, it is natural guidance motion for me with palm out, and I brought that to serve toss. I think the natural movement also effected my toss height (could be too high) bc now it is more effortless toss with hand guiding ball as opposed to a technical toss. Thanks for video. Keep up great content.

Starting to have success with this after 1 practice session and 1 round of tennis. Finished last couple services without double faulting. Got compliments after the match. I think the hand technique changes the toss to go up straighter so as not to toss it up on an arc over your head and behind you. Which was apt to happen. Thanks, again.

Great stuff! I was wondering where the ball should land in the court when you are doing a flat, slice, and kick serve? I was thinking that the kick would land closer to the line and body, but the flat and slice would be in front and more to the side of the body. I notice that my tosses are practically right on top of my head, making me slightly off balance. I need to practice where I release the ball, or maybe you already did a video for that already. Thanks!

Jeff, One aspect I don't hear mentioned in the ball toss video is what is the optimal position of the ball in the hand so as to get the best consistent release. I am not able to release the ball in a consistent spot which throws everything off. Would love to see a video on how best to hold a ball in the hand of the tossing arm to get maximum consistency in ball toss placement.

Hey Jeff! Could you also talk about how the tossing arm comes down when you drive into the ball? I recorded my serve for the first time and noticed that my off arm kind of collapsed straight down, missing the cart wheel-like shoulder over shoulder..
@EdmonBegoli4 жыл бұрын
Jeff - do you have a recommendation for how many daily serve practices? Do you also have some recommendations for step-by-step practice progression (I am not a total beginner - have basics in place but they don’t always work together).

HI Jeff. Just watched a video from Rick Macci . He was talking about toss lag, which most of pros do i.e. developing timing in a way the toss come before the racket gets in trophy position so you can keep things more fluid. How does it applies to what you´ve teaching? Thank you for your lessons.
@K4R3N4 жыл бұрын
6:50 yeah very easy to practice serving. Buy a hopper and about 50 balls and hit the court for an hour alone 3x/week before or after work. Sometimes I'll even get out there during my lunch break, feels great. In a month or two you'll be much more comfortable about your serve. You cannot only practice your serve during matches, that's not enough practice

Thank you for this video I have a particular issue when I release the ball between my fingers at the top of the toss, there is always one finger touching the last the ball giving it sideway direction. So instead of going upright the ball goes slightly sideway making a difficult or wrong serve. As a guitarist the tip of my fingers are hard, may be it explains the fact. So now the ball is the palm of my hand, and the fingers don't interfere, so in my case it doesn't matter if the fingers are wide spread in the end of the toss as you recommend, does it?

Hey Jeff! I've literally tried implementing every tip you've given here and I still can't seem to get the toss right😪 it's still really sporadic and that throws my whole motion off because I constantly have to make little adjustments with the rest of my body to hit it with good contact. I thought you're going to mention another important thing about tossing arm, that when you toss the ball you have to watch the ball from outside the arm not from inside the arm, this enables to rotate shoulders way more, and going to produce more power and consistency, or am I wrong with this?
@matyverona94074 жыл бұрын
What does "from outside the arm" mean exactly?
@tomasliutkus82164 жыл бұрын
@@matyverona9407 well when you toss the ball and keep tossing arm straight up, I see most club players watching the ball from inside of tossing arm, it means if you're righty you're watching ball to the right of your tossing arm, and most professionals extend tossing arm more to the right so they're watching ball to the left of theyr tossing arm. I don't know how I could explain it any clearer :)

Thanks. My brain assumes a good toss is all it takes. Still got to get it to do those subtle calculations that factor in height of ball, position of ball relative to racket, angle of strings, racket path, etc. That is, don't just hit the ball and expect results. Must find another brain.
