This 100% worked for me. I was able to completely remove letters gone by using a sticky cat hair roller and making a few passes after soaking a few times. The bottle is huge but I'm going to give it away on a community page. I figure someone might want it to remove garment lettering. Thanks for the tip Jeff!

What’s the active ingredient in the vinyl remover? I wonder if Naptha (commonly sold as Zippo fuel) might do this as well as help your residue issue

Definitely definitely worth a go. I’ve seen it shift some unshiftable stuff before. And it dries to a vapour too, so it cleans itself up. Once you’ve loosened up the bits, it may be a good idea to use a vacuum on it (before you apply as well).

you can remove it, but it would be permanent, so you'd lose the dampening and grip and look as well. at that point just get the older version.

Here's what I did, and I didn't need to spend $22 for VLR. Use a steamer to get the letters off, then use acetone on a microfiber cloth to remove the adhesive left behind - you can reapply steam as you scrub but make sure you're in a well ventilated area. No residue left no shadow of the original rode logo either.
