Interesting video. Curious what companies manufacture the piping and pumps for the stations. Question: Wondered if there is a free website that provides info as to the cost of building different sized lift stations like this, for various areas, depending on many different issues (depth of sewer, # of homes to service in area, city/county requirements, etc). Good Job.

The water level sensing rod must be a bit more reliable compared to float switches, baby wipes seem wrap the cables of float switches. Guess the rods still need the occasional proper clean, cooking grease could build up on it. Lucky he didnt go in the wet well.......

The motor starters actually make the pumps start and run? Wow. Who knew? Definitely new cause there ain't no dead electrocuted mice or rats in the cabinet. You don't need a gas sensor to go down into the dry well confined space?

Floats are for alarms and the transducer is for on/off levels.

Depends u can feel the pumps if there powerful enough and sometimes they stink like u know what. But call your city water utilities and they have methods to help combat those issues.

I just moved near a lift station unbeknownst to me...the stench is unbearable....we are a quarter of a mile away,,,is this normal? The horrible smell is very strong and consistent every evening.....Is the problem due to improper maintenance or system?,,,or is it something we just have to cope with?

Ask the MUA to do a sulfide test or try a charcoal dish in the manholes by your house. It could be a sag in the line causing sewer to turn septic which will cause the odors too.

I have bad news for you. It's not gonna change. As long as folks use the restroom it will always smell. Everyone that lives near pump stations experience the same problem.

They could install better covers that hold in the smell. We use stainless steel covers that have rubber gaskets that seal very well.
