You're the kind of shop I went to as a kid. I didn't have a lot of money and would raid the .25 and .50 books, and that was back in the early 80's and I'm still collecting in my 50's

PSA: To Haven For Heroes, TS: 7:44 - 7:54 “ I just love this art form so much, I hate to see it ever end up in the garbage.” Spoken like a TRUE Collector LCS proprietor. This hobby is rampant with “Collectors” who buy but seldom ( if ever )read what they buy. Well said brother, well said… - Thank you. (Ps) I’ve bought, sold, graded, and collected comics for the last 30 years. I’m watching this video while opening a box of modern floppy’s I recently ordered. Thank you for the inspiration, and keeping me company.

An old library/bookseller trick to "de-stink" items is to stack them in a sealed plastic box that has a layer of kitty litter on the bottom, with unscented dryer sheets separating each item. Leave them for a month. We do that in my library, and I do it with some books that I'm going to sell on eBay. It works well.

Thanks for the overview. I have not heard the dryer sheet tip before. Great toys included in the lot. On your $1 or .50 cent bins, do you spend the time to organize them?

I actually buy the 3-ft rolls and cut it myself to keep expenses down. And I use it literally on Golden Age up to 10 sheets

Dryer sheets seems risky since 99% have oils and other stuff in them which could transfer to the comic. I think I would rather put comics in a box with an open box of baking soda to absorb the odor.
@HavenForHeroes4 ай бұрын
That probably would work too. The unscented usually doesn't have any oil in it. That's a nice tip though! Thanks for joining the conversation. Welcome aboard.

That talk about reprints made me think that a trade of detective comics 1 - 26 would be really cool because no one sells those issues

A few years back, DC had promised a hardcover reprinting of every pre-Batman issue of Detective, then it was cancelled. I don’t think it even got to the point of solicitation in Previews.

Thanks for the content. What was the app that scans the comic and tells you the grade?
@HavenForHeroes4 ай бұрын
I think you misunderstood. There isn't one that grades books through a scan it finds them so you'll know if it's a key or not. The two that scan are key collector and overstreet access

I don't own a comic shop but I do have a resale business that occasionally deals in comics... With anything, not just comics, I find that if a customer is willing to spend 50 cents on an item, they are also willing to spend $1 for the same thing, therefore nothing in my store is less than a dollar. It increases profit and if sales are slow or I want to move more of the dollar items faster I'll run a special for the weekend for something like "Buy 10 for $1 each and get 5 free" or even "buy 10 get 10 free". It helps generate excitement and usually increases topline sales for that period. Then that practice also increases bottom-line overall because those 50 cent items during regular times are $1 instead... Anyway, love your videos as always!
@HavenForHeroes4 ай бұрын
Yeah, there's a lot of different business models and selling strats. I agree with you that that extra $0.50 is not going to stop people from purchasing. Usually my 50 cent books are severely damaged. Thank you so much for watching. I appreciate you joining the conversation and bringing value to the channel. Welcome aboard!

Hi again! I have a question to ask: I have some earlier Golden and Silver Age comics encased in Fortess slabs. Unfortunately they don't make them anymore. I was thinking of MAYBE sending some of them to have graded/slabbed via CGC. I do not want to send all of them. The expenses alone is pricey for me. Any experience with keeping comics or using the Fortess slabs? Do you think they might be better to keep the ungraded older comics in indefinitely? Could use your guidance. Thanks!
@HavenForHeroes23 күн бұрын
I have absolutely no knowledge of the fortress slabs. Now I have to do some research. Thank you for bringing this to my attention. The major question is always always for me. Are the UV protected ? I've seen so many slabbed books that have obviously been faded inside of the slab. I wish I had better guidance for you. At this point I don't maybe somebody else on the channel has used them for a long time and know better. But I don't think there's true protection without UV protection for your books. Other companies do have UV cgc does not.
@alee137423 күн бұрын
@HavenForHeroes Thanks for the response! Yep, if you find out anything please let me know. They are museum type quality slabs sold years back. I doubt they are UV protected...that's why each case came with their own black felt cover to protect them from light. Company went out of business years ago but they are built solid!

Who makes the comic book scanners? you mentioned something about converting comic books into cvs files?
@HavenForHeroes4 ай бұрын
Hip comics is a selling platform. They have a scanner. Also overstreet access where you can maintain your collection has a scanner and key collector has a scanner. I didn't mention cuz I've never used. Clz also has a scan but I believe it's the UPC and not just a photo.
@waynegram89074 ай бұрын
@@HavenForHeroes Do they send you a scanner or use your cellphone or computer monitor to scan the comics? I think once your scan the comic it will also do the grading by the software grading looking for the microcracking, wear and tear, aging, etc. I think that is what will be used to do the grading in software by scanning comics so you don't have to get ripped off by CGC or 3rd party grading company.
