The south exit portal of the Kirklee tunnel would have taken you to the old Stobcross station-goods yard, its now called the Exhibition center station, 20 odd years ago, the river Kelvin burst its banks further up & the water came down through that tunnel & it flooded the current low level Argyle tunnels, from Anderston to the old station at Glasgow cross, the Argyle line was out of action for over 18 months, to prevent further flooding, network rail put a few hundred tons of ballast stones on the other side of the fence at the portals exit to act as a dam, you can see it from the train if your traveling from Partick station to Charing cross station.
@taxidude5 ай бұрын
Everyone in Glasgow knows where this is. We all know it. Further along the line was Maryhill. The old trackbed and railway walls etc still exist under Tesco in Maryhill which was built on stilts in case the line was ever reopened. If Tesco would give you access that would be good.

Yes those were calcium drips on the wall. Those drips like that and what makes stalactites and stalagmites. Left alone long enough it would begin to look like a proper cave. Great place. So glad you took us along. Looking forward to what is next.

Known about this old station (Botanic Gardens) for several years. There’s a nice viewing point and information sign looking down into the old station in the gardens. Not sure where the entry point might be. One thing wrong though - this is not literally under the centre of Glasgow - it’s underneath Some gardens, in the west end of the city. Pretty sure the blocked off end of the station will be towards Great Western Road, and the light at the blocked off tunnel end walked to will be around Kirklee, where I think the next station going towards Maryhill was. Cool to see and thank you, but would just encourage research and stated info to be a bit better.

Great explore Dale, what a strange place to have an art gallery though, few can see it. One reason I enjoy the mobile art galleries like that that we have in Canada, something fun to watch while waiting at a train crossing.

There's 2 underground Botanic tunnels there, one tunnel used to run right down to Charing Cross, but was blocked off at the end. There's another tunnel entrance from Crathie Drive Broomhill, runs up over Thornwood & down to Hyndland. Used to be rats in it 🐀

I think the rats have moved out the tunnels as there is a big problem with them in North Kelvinside and surrounding areas just now. It's so bad that the council have put large commercial bins on the streets for domestic rubbish uplifts instead of collecting it from the normal bin areas where the rats are having a party!
@daviddonnelly1118 Жыл бұрын
@@172Break there's a dead squashed rat on the entrance ramp to our car park, they're everywhere 🐀🐀🐀

I think the film company should be forced to return the tunnel security back to what it was. So people can get in and enjoy this amazing place. I discovered this tunnel as a young child and fortunately was able to get in again during a rare trip home. I was in my 50s and entered at the Kirklee end. It was thrilling to be back again and I'm glad I managed it before the horrible un-scaleable fencing went up! Come on kids of Glasgow, cut a way in!
