I went to Fountains Abbey in 1978 with my school. Was a day trip from Epsom Surrey. Will never forget it and had a great day trip. I was fascinated with the history, not just here but several castles we visited other times. FA has been shown a lot on tv now and I always have fond memories.

I’m jelly. I live in America where our oldest things are just now getting dust on them. Would love to be able to go to Britain Scotland area and spend a summer traveling to all the historical sites. I wouldn’t ever get bored.

Watching them putting a band on the bat’s leg reminded me of something I was reading yesterday. Researchers became aware that the male birds they had banded the previous season, with a red leg band were more successful than their un-banded counterparts. The females were preferring the males with the colourful red leg bands over the males with none. This had totally skewed the data that they had been collecting. The researchers went on to remove all of the red leg bands and replaced them with bands that were similar in their colour to the actual bird. Aaaaaaaanyway, 😂

I love bats! But... they are like petri dishes. They CARRY diseases but aren't made sick by them. They are so important to Bug control, I am from Texas and they eat the mosquitos that carry zika, west Nile ect. They are lovely, just dont mess with them or touch them!

Why did they have to wreck them all? Such a pity. Was monasticism so bad?
