Jelly-like covering is made on the tip. We see this expanding under the microscope through time lapse. The covering protects the root tip as it moves through the earth. We see the root turn away from a bright light. The root turns down if it is placed in a horizontal position. If grows into the air it will turn back on itself. Roots glide over and around stones. Root is guided away from copper - if the "thinking tip" of the root is cut off, the root doesn't sense that the copper would be poison.
