Them worshipping pythons is very similar to our culture worshipping cobra , basically snakes are considered sacred unlike some think of them as just reptiles . In our Hiinduism, Lord Shiva is also considered Lord of serpents.We also have Nagpanchami dedicated to snakes. Their way of washing hands is also same as us washing hands , feet and sprinkling drops of water on head before entering temples. You shared a great deal of information on it. But prohibiting women altogether, even during the days they are not menstruating is what people were against. I have never seen a woman protesting to go inside a holy place on their periods but it's the discrimination that people do to them, even when they are not on their period is condemnable.
