I don't mind the lack of Twilight Zone since it isn't popular in Japan and this version of the Tower is very cool. Love the design and the setting (I'm a New Yorker). It truly stands out, one of the reasons I love DisneySea so much
@Dragonrider12274 жыл бұрын
In distancing itself from the Twilight Zone, they actually came up with a story that feels more like a Twilight Zone episode than the original ride does.
@katereilly93674 жыл бұрын
Rod Sterling would be proud, and the ones that are Twilight Zone themed are pretty creepy themselves. I mean, the California tower gave me the creeps 6 years before I'd actually ride it. But if there's one thing Disney does well, its theming. The facade of this Tower is as benign as the Disneyland Haunted Mansion in that, its rather immaculate but you get this sense of something being off, and as you go through the queue you start getting a bit more of the story, and then the pre-show is just 'Foolish mortals' (to borrow a phrase). I just... Really love how well done every version of the Tower and the Mansion are done, even if the theme or story changes a bit.
@KeepCalmContemplateYourChoices4 жыл бұрын
The main characters in each episode of The Twilight Zone usually had some sort of flaw that justified their predicaments in the episodes. The five people who disappeared in the Hollywood Tower Hotel don't seem to have any reason for them to be blasted to the Twilight Zone. Meanwhile, Hightower III was a greedy adventurer who got what was coming to him. It feels like an actual Twilight Zone story more than the US and Paris versions.

I have never had the opportunity to ride this, unfortunately, but I love the elaborate storytelling that is in this attraction and how it adds to the greater lore of the S.E.A. It just goes to show that when you let imagineers do what they do best, which is melding creative storytelling with feats of engineering, they can produce some real gems.

I think the rise to the top of the shaft instead of the immediate drop makes for a more chilling experience because for international travellers, it would be unfamiliar to the ones at the other parks, which would make them question what was going on. Then BAM! The elevator drops.
@aaronprewitt3443 жыл бұрын
you know, i think the reason a lot of the international parks (mainly Tokyo Disneysea) got 'original attractions' was because a lot of the Japanese public simply like anything Disney, (they don't complain when an attraction is non-ip based) and the imagineers were free of a 'budget' that plagued so many other disney parks.

Went on this ride in 2014 after nightfall and the view from the top before the drop was amazing. I had never ridden a Tower of Terror or heard of them before so I went into the attraction blind, not knowing what to expect. Because of the rather relaxed nature of the seats ( No elaborate restraints, just a simple seatbelt ) I at first thought it to be just a simulation rig that shook around a bit. I was shocked with amazement when suddenly the doors opened and I was greeted with an amazing view of the lit up park.

I've always wanted to ride this; maybe someday I'll be able to get to TDS and experience it firsthand. There was also a really cool Flash-based website around the time this opened, that explained the story of the tower and Shikiri Utundu, where you played as a reporter going into the dilapidated tower to investigate, but I think it's been lost to time. (It was even updated with English text at some point!)

The storyline for Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout at Disney California Adventure bears similarities to the Tokyo storyline, albeit in a more lighthearted manner. I've been to Tokyo Disney/DisneySea twice now and have to say Tower of Terror is my all time favourite attraction in any theme park I've ever been to. It is literally a living art masterpiece and it's so exciting that last time I went I waited 2 whole hours in line because I wasn't leaving Japan without riding it once again. If you don't speak Japanese you'll still grasp the general concept of the lore/story. Even though it was explained that it isn't as thrilling as other iterations in USA, I can guarantee you'll still feel the same thrill and excitement. Also a tip! I recommend heading straight to Tower of Terror when the park opens and grab the fast pass over Indiana Jones, this ride has a much larger queue and processes less passengers at a time in comparison.

I'd give this version more Disney cred for being a part of the S.E.A. lore. This makes it uniquely Disney, and not a license with CBS like Twilight Zone. I seem to recall there was some dispute about that license anyways, like CBS didn't want to renew it which is part of what prompted Guardians of the Galaxy. My only question is whether or not this means we may see the Harrison Hightower version go to other parks to assure it's a 100% Disney controlled license.

The story about Japan not being familiar with the twilight zone is such a copout by Disney. I have listened and read multiple interviews where Rod Serling talks about it being broadcast there. The real reason is that Disney didn't want to pay the licensing fee again. I'm not mad about the original story, I love it actually. I just wish Disney would be honest about it
@A_A610 Жыл бұрын
The other important factor that made changes necessary was ensuring the ride would fit into the continuity of the rest of the park, given American Waterfront is themed to 1912 New York (several decades earlier than the fateful night, and on the opposite coast). The story changes to make this work were inevitable, but the new story didn't really need the Twilight Zone framing to stand on its own...and wasn't worth licensing to shoehorn in.

I was a little disappointed of the ride itself, I did not felt the air times that I love. i thought that was due to the seat belt which is different and may stop you from « fly » a little from your seat. i am glad to learn that is due to the drop sequence as we can imagine an update in the future where the drop sequence could be random or different for each shaft (like we have in Paris). What surprises me is that the original TOT in California Adventure looks like a lost episode of “The Twilight Zone” but the story to me didn’t make any sense on what was actually the purpose of the guests at the hotel to have this sort of powers with electricity. But the fact that S.E.A. does have a more detailed story makes me intrigued on what happened later to the explorers and the artifacts they discovered. 😅 Now I’m curious, where did the entity send Hightower after he disappeared from the elevator? Why was his soul still wondering through the mansion? Was that part of the entities curse? 🤔

Thank you so much for this video! I rode this ride but I couldn't understand it as I don't speak Japanese. Amazed by the details but it's not thrilling enough imo!

I just found out that Shiriki Utundu is voiced by Richard Horvitz. Yes, THAT Richard Horvitz

Who's that?

@@Imperials3nateseriously??? He voiced alpha 5 in power rangers, one of the beavers in angry beavers, Billy in The grim adventures of Billy and Mandy, FUCKING Zim from Invader zim, and his more recent role, Moxxie in Helluva Boss. (Yes I am a fan of that show….bite me)

Being a thrill junkie. I do agree that this version is a lot more tamed than the other Disney versions. This ride also has an over the shoulder like a cars seat belt. Also ruins the ride a bit as well
