Fredericksburg is probably the most beloved tourist town in Texas and for good reason. German history and culture still thrive here, and there is plenty to satisfy almost all tastes in the area.

My family and I go out to Fredericksburg every spring to see the wildflower fields at the Wildseed Farm and explore the town. The history is awesome, the town is beautiful, the shopping and food are amazing. I adore this town. I would move there, but its expensive.

This video is very informative for people who have never been/ hardly go to Fredericksburg. You hit the best spots! i recommend picking up a Best of Fredericksburg magazine in town if you ever go again. They are free and It helped me navigate the shops, restaurants/ bars and touched on some historic parts of the town too. Can’t wait to go back!!

My great grandparents knew everyone in town in the 20's and 30's when the population was 100. My grandfather told me that the US use to bring German POW's to town during WW2 since the town was sympathetic and wouldn't kill them as fellow Germans. The becker vineyard tasting room use to be a car dealership owned by Crenwelge. My great grandfather had the competitor car dealership in town and use to sell AMC's. Crenwelge won out selling the Chevrolets. My great grandfather traded a car for their house in the 20's. Very interesting history. Different world back then.

3 years ago I went to Fredericksburg and went through the pioneer museum. One thing that highly impressed me was that each house had a recording that played when you entered the house. Told you all about the people that lived there. I remember well several of the building you showed. The Nemitz museum was under restoration so I didn't get to go there but definitely a lot of fun.

Your information about wineries is a little inaccurate. The German settlers brought grapevines with them to support wine for Church use. The grapes flourished. During the infamous blight that decimated the vineyards in California grapevines were brought from Texas to reestablish the vineyards. My Family's vineyard near Luckenbach had vines that were over 100 years old!

One thing about Fredericksburg you can only scratch the surface in a 12 minute video. Always fly out there and land at the airport and stay at the hangar hotel it’s a super nice place and generally cheaper than anything in town I was sure you were going to include the Batcave south of town. Where the old train went through the mountain it is a little state park and I know how you like hiking so it would’ve been right up your alley.

The main street is extraordinarily wide because of the cattle drives. St. Mary’s is one of his series of what are called the painted churches throughout southern Texas. If you Google the painted churches of Texas and live nearby it is a great one day tour. Each one is a special gem. If you visit Fredericksburg for more than a day plan a few hours side trip to Luckenbach. It’s about 30 minutes away. And you only need to spend about 30 minutes to see all of it.

Great info vid. Thanks ! The building shown first, the round structure with a tower in the center was used in a very low budget early sixties horror film titled "The Naked Witch". Its director, Larry Buchanan, was a native Texan and prolific filmmaker. In the horror flick, the town is Luchenbach (sic) according to the voiceover narration.

There's an Amish Market on Main St which is a must stop for my family for cheeses, jams, etc. I try to get F-R-O-G Jam every time (fig-rasperry-orange-ginger). The back room has the handmade Amish quilts & furniture. Amish buggies are parked out front. Then there are those famous Fredericksburg PEACHES! Around May and well into June, there are several places to get fresh peaches and scrumptious peach cobblers. Das Peach Haus being only one such place.

As a native of Fredericksburg I feel the need to point out a thing or two. First the "Vireinse Kriehe" also know as the "public church" was original located in the middle of HWY 281/290 and a replica relocated approx 200 yrds south. Second most of the "original" homes shown are tourist replica's. This has become the tourist trap of Texas and is in no way representative of the true folk that settled and made the town.
