I just got my section 8 vouchers Tuesday and looking for a house but it’s so hard and nothing much around. Can I talk to you even though I’m in Maryland because my PHA said they don’t do the homeownership program and that the FSS doesn’t help me get a home 🤔 so after watching videos on KZbin I’m now confused

In California I was told that with the FSS program you can either take the money at the end of 5 years and have it issued to you in a check, OR you can have them put it toward a down payment on a home. Your choice. Why miss out on free money matching what you have been paying?

Be careful I did it and then I ended up being a total NIGHTMARE for me, there ended up being a bunch a little technicalities, and they were really literally trying to make me ineligible once it came down to ending the program and getting the money.

Hello Kelly -I don't understand your question...are you asking if owning a home will affect your SSI? That would be a question for them. If you are asking if you can PURCHASE a home, yes. There is a lending product for fixed income recipients.

I currently live in HUD housing. I work part time and receiving SSDI. I am currently in the FSS program where I reside. I am not on Section 8 and never received a voucher. Is the FSS program different for me or the same? I reside in Maryland.

Hi! To speak to it, I would need to see the program or contact your worker...most FSS is designed to phase a customer off somethings...might be the same...it encourages and empowers then supports the transition from a renter into homeownership.

Hi Pearlie837 - Thanks for reaching out! Here in my area, we have 6 Housing Authorities and 3 offer the Homeownership Program. I host a seminar with the slides/deck from their program. You have to initiate the request directly with your worker. They will go over the requirements with you but essentially you need to have employment or a source of income and get on track to become mortgage eligible while in your current rental. That’s it. Save 1% of your own funds to share in the down payment and select a lender that is on their Approved Lender list. Submit your contact info on my website www annishabattle com and I’ll coordinate a date/time to jump on a Zoom. I then share my screen and we go over the amazing FSS program and success stories! Let’s do something different in 2024!!!!!

Hi I live in Columbus Ohio in order to receive the escrow from FSS program do I have to finish the homeownership program classes? Or do I have to finish the homeownership program classes in order to find a lender?

Hi, these are two different things. Escrow = Amount held to be attached to a property. Lender = What you will need to buy a property. To answer, I will need you to clarify what you mean...in my market, yes complete FSS and you are released to select a lender. I then collect an "escrow" deposit to secure the deal for the home you will purchase. The escrow is refundable so as long as neither party breaches the terms of the purchase contract!I have won a few escrow disputes so make sure your agent WATCHES THE TIMELINES! Congrats and keep in touch [phone] when you close so more tenants can benefit from FSS!

Yes! There is a newer program for SSI and SSDI recipients. Where are you located Tasha? BC there is also a national option called --> "HOT-PHA" Homeownership through public housing assistance from NACA. Look it up when you get a chance! Always ask your worker about it -AND- find out which program they have available for you. Call me when you are ready!

I knew this was a thing but the Section 8 office never said anything about it when we would ask! They were always clueless & just didn't care! Were still on Section 8 & have been for many many years and sadly the landlords we have had haven't been the best landlords! I get sick all the time in the house I'm currently in but have no choice.. They don't care enough to fix anything and now they want us to move out by April of 2024 literally giving us 2 months to leave and I've been super stressed out! I also have a small 3yr dog which I don't want to have to let go of because he's really attach to me & I love him so much but we can't seem to find any houses to rent & the stress is killing me! Can someone please help me?!! 😭

Contact your local FAIR HOUSING DEPARTMENT AND AN ATTORNEY!! Get the place tested for mold! Save all of your medical records and document your sickness and your request for them to fix things. Call 211 and ask them for organizations that assist with renters rights and fighting evictions . There is help!!! Don’t let it stress you out fighting it by yourself. You can probably sue them.
